Britney Spears...mom of the year award

MALIBU, Calif. - Child welfare officials and a sheriff's deputy visited Britney Spears' home because her infant son was accidentally dropped from a high chair, People Magazine and the Los Angeles Times reported.

Six-month-old Sean Preston fell April 1 as his nanny was lifting him from the high chair and something in the chair snapped, People said Wednesday on its Web site. The infant slipped from her arms and fell, bruising his head on the floor, the magazine said.

Though a doctor examined the baby at the house, Spears and husband Kevin Federline took the baby to the emergency room to have him examined six days later, the report said.

Spears' attorney, Martin Singer, said in a statement that the hospital made a report to the Department of Children and Family Services as required by state law.

"DCFS immediately responded and determined there was no problem and no reason to open a formal investigation. They determined that the parents weren't involved in the injury and nothing was improper within the home," he said.

The Los Angeles DCFS and the Lost Hills sheriff's station declined to give details of Saturday's visit, and would not say if there was an ongoing investigation. DCFS public-affairs director Louise Grasmehr didn't return a phone message left Tuesday at her Los Angeles office. The department routinely refuses to discuss cases, citing confidentiality laws.

"It's a very standard, routine patrol request," Lt. Debra Glaskides said Tuesday. "We just roll out with them. We stood by, we took no action, no report or anything."

In February, DCFS visited Spears' home after publication of photographs showing the 24-year-old singer driving with then 4-month-old Sean Preston in her lap, rather than in a car seat as required by law.

Spears later apologized, saying she did it because of a "horrifying, frightful encounter with the paparazzi."

C&K*s Mommie replied: at least he is okay after all. smile.gif BTDT with falls and such with K mostly. blush.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Yeah, I guess it's not that big of a deal after all, is it? I mean, if my life were in the spotlight like hers is, I'd make Britney Spears look like a nun! emlaugh.gif rolling_smile.gif

luvbug00 replied: It's nice to see they are following the proceduree of the law with her regardless of her "celebrity" status.

mckayleesmom replied: All that for a fall from a highchair? Russell practically jumps out of his every couple months....He shimmies out of the belt or unsnaps it. growl.gif

b&bsmom replied: I want to know why they have a nanny is she even working ...is he even working.... and the whole thing about driving with him sitting in her lap she says after a terrifying thing with the papparazzi, if it was so bad then why wouldn't you leave him in the car seat in case of something happeneing like an accident??? JMO

I agree with the fall not being a big deal BTDT more than once. It happens.

C&K*s Mommie replied: Kellie did the same thing as a young child, that is why we never really used highchairs with her. She would stand up in it. mad.gif

coasterqueen replied: Hmm, maybe it's because she waited 6 days to take him? unsure.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: From my wee little understanding, blush.gif a doc already examined him before that 6 day mark at the house. Then they took him later on to the ER.

coasterqueen replied:
Sorry, just re-read it and you are right. blush.gif

jem0622 replied: I am just curious why we are bashing her when we've all had mishaps with our little ones and feel like horrible mothers for it?

I think that she did the right thing by having him checked out and it is unfortunate that her son was injured. However, I'm sure he's no worse for the wear!

jcc64 replied: Noah stood up and fell out of his highchair, and I happened to be sitting right next to him, trying in vain, as usual, to shovel food into his reluctant little mouth. My back wasn't turned, I was right there, and still he tumbled right out in an instant, landing directly on his head. He sustained a pretty decent concussion- eyes rolled back in his head, the whole deal, it was terrifying, but also completely unavoidable. Accidents happen.
The kid on the lap while driving, not to mention her choice for a "husband", show considerably less judgment and maturity, but I never suspected she was rocket scientist material.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: I heard this story on the news lastnight...I am sure that it was one of those things that happen with kids! Taylor had one heck of a shiner at her 2nd birthday party (she waked into the side of a table that she used to be able to walk under) I would think that maybe because of her celebrity status they had the doctor at the house look him over first-maybe if the bruise was not fading fast enough they went to the ER as the next step. As far as the carseat incident-I think it was very stupid of her to do that but anyone over their early 30's probably rode many times that way as a child....I am NOT defending Britany Spears parenting-actually I couldn't care less either way-I just think that it is easy for the media and news rags to spotlight her to sell their papers.....

mckayleesmom replied:
Not all of us were....although I think she is a natural born idiot by nature....I clearly stated that I didn't see what the big deal was.

coasterqueen replied:
I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not bashing her. I'm not perfect by any means. Shoot when Kylie was a baby I put her in the stroller and started jogging down the road and then stopped abruptly for some reason, she fell out face down on the pavement and got a HUGE bad looking knot on her head.

I was just saying I thought it was weird she waited 6 days to take him to the hospital, but that was before I re-read that she had a doc come ot the house.

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Didn't know there was any "Bashing" going on. Sorry.

C&K*s Mommie replied: dito.gif I did not see any bashing either Julie, sorry. dunno.gif

Brias3 replied: To my understanding of this post, Aimee was just making the point of the fact that it seems Britney has been involved in alot of "mishaps" with her kid the past few months he has been around. I didn't think we're bashing her, we have all had incidents with our own kids, I'm sure, but it just seems like a roll-your-eyes type thing to hear Britney reported on ANOTHER odd occurence with her baby.

ashtonsmama replied: laugh.gif
Poor Sean Preston! I would hate to be him right now...but honestly, how do you DROP a baby when putting them in a high chair?!? I would think a nanny would be more careful then that!
blink.gif
But seriously, I guess she's doing the best she can, just like the rest of us new moms (and old moms for that matter)!

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
It's true. And like I stated, I'm sure it's all b/c of the fact that she IS in the media. I'd hate for someone to put a spotlight on MY life. wink.gif What I meant by "poor child" is that he will never have a normal life...he will always be in the spotlight and read about the 'mistakes' his mother made while raising him. I should have clarified my statement.
