CJ's Mom - Update on the students

Kirstenmumof3 replied: Thank You for asking! It's not going very well and I'm so sick with anger right now! It's all hitting me, I'm very scared and I'm having a lot of trouble sleeping! The student that was huffing is still here. I did another room search and found nothing. DH and I went through the house and locked away anything that was aresol. I was out this evening and DH caught him sniffing our BBQ starter. You know those lighter type things that you use when your starter goes on the BBQ! I'm so scared! I read up on huffing and from what I read it doesn't sound very good. This student can become violent or die the next time he sniffs something. Those consellors have not phoned yet and we were told by his consellor (who is also the oncall person) if they remove this student at our request she does not know if they will replace him. But we already knew this from our experience last year. We also know that if the consellor removes him from our home than they have to replace the student! I'm stuck between a rock and a hardplace right now. If we request he leave we may not be able to get another student. If we don't get another student than we won't be able to pay our loan (which is contingent on us having a minimum of 3 students). If he stays than I'm so affraid of what might happen!

Kirstenmumof3 replied: Another quick update! I talked to the consellor of the Student who is huffing last night and let her know that my DH caught him again and that we locked everything up. I even told her that I found some info on the internet and she told me that I probably know more about huffing than she does. So I asked her if she had access to a computer and she does at her office. So I told her I would give her a link (the one I posted) and she said she would call back. This was 10:00 last night and she DIDN'T EVEN CALL BACK! I went to bed shortly after 10:30 and told DH to give her the link when she called back, he came to bed at 12:00 and she hadn't called! This morning there is no message, I even checked my call display to see if she called and she didn't! I'm so angry!

maestra replied: How can she be a counselor for teens and not know anything about huffing? I teach kinder and know about huffing, we sometimes see it start in schools around 3rd-4th grade (I work in a high poverty, high gang, high drugs area). What is with this woman?

My2Beauties replied: Gosh I am so sorry that you are having to deal with this. I can't believe those counselors aren't calling back. Is there anyone you can report them to? I would find out.

Kaitlin'smom replied: oh man, whats wrong with the counclers? dont they care? and if they dont get out of your job, we need caring people in toes kind of positions. I am sorry your having to deal with a scary problem. What is it going to take for them to do something?

DansMom replied: These agencies tend to be woefully understaffed---that may be part of the problem. I would be furious and fearful too---that's just so extreme. I can't believe that kid is not in a treatment/rehab center, since it sounds like he's actively using. I hope they will take some action soon!

Kirstenmumof3 replied: Okay the kids who's huffing, his consellor just called me! They want me to keep an even closer eye on him this weekend because the Mental Health Consellor discovered that he is BURNING himself with cigarettes! How am I supposed to deal with this! I'm not trained to deal with stuff like this! This kid needs to be seen by the Mental Health Workers at the Hospital, someone more qualified! OMG I don't want to be here with him alone this weekend! My DH is away until 9-10 pm tonight, Saturday and Sunday! What am I going to do? This has gone from bad to worse! I'm going to talk to my DH this evening and see what he says! His consellor is oncall this weekend so she said I could call at any time! I'll keep you all updated!

Kirstenmumof3 replied: Just got off the phone with DH and he told me to just keep myself away from the house this weekend. I'm taking the kids to McDonalds PlayLand tonight, tomorrow they have swimming lessons and we are spending the day with my inlaws. Sunday I might take them to a movie if I can find someone to watch Claudia. DH said we'll see how it goes this weekend and if things haven't changed he's going to ask them to remove him!
