Caffeine intake?
My2Beauties wrote: Does anyone know how much caffeine is ok with pregnancy? I've always heard PG women can have like 2 cups of coffee a day, which I don't drink but I love my tea. I have a fairly large cup of sweet tea in front of me right now.
ETA: I used to know but now I can't remember, it's been nearly 3 years
gr33n3y3z replied: I have been caffenine free for over 10 years for medical reasons Its not bad it just takes a little time to get use to
Hillbilly Housewife replied: i think 2 to 3 cups is fine... I know I had my coffee pretty much every day... and I had red raspberry leaf tea twice a day every day pretty much throughout my pregnancies.
Boo&BugsMom replied: I can't remember. I don't drink coffee, but I can't seem to get away from chocolate which has the same, if not more, caffeine than coffee sometimes.
PrairieMom replied: I'm no help. I went completely off caffine when I was PG. I have about one caffinated beverage everyother day now that I am nursing.
ediep replied: I went off caffene when I found out I was preg too. although I could really use some coffee now.
I am pretty sure 1-2 cups of a caffinated beverage is fine
wcs40110 replied: I've heard that 300mg is safe. That's acually a lot of caffine. I was looking for the webpage but it broke it down to like 3 cups of coffee, or 5 cups or tea or 7 cans of pop. I would probibly still stay well under that. For the first 8 months I've been trying to drink only 1 can of pop a day and only do other caffine when I was feeling my weakest. Unfortunantly it was recently that I read that article and some other research backing it up and as apposed to cutting out caffine all together I've been allowing myself an extra can of pop. I figure the less addictions I give this kid while shes in my stomach the less I have to deal with breaking once shes out. Since I can go without caffine for a day and not notice I figure she'll be fine. Here's a handy chart.
This is according to the march of dimes The website I got it from
Foods and Beverages Milligrams of caffeine (average) Coffee (8 oz.) Brewed, drip
Instant 137 mg
76 mg Tea (8 oz.) Brewed
Instant 48 mg
26-36 mg Caffeinated soft drinks, such as cola (12 oz.) 37 mg Hot cocoa (12 oz.) 8-12 mg Chocolate milk (8 oz.) 5-8 mg Candy Dark chocolate (1.45 oz bar)
Milk chocolate (1.55 oz bar)
Semi-sweet chocolate chips (1/4 cup) 30 mg
11 mg
26-28 mg Chocolate syrup (1 oz.) 3 mg Coffee ice cream/frozen yogurt (1/2 cup) 2 mg
You can also do a seach and find out how much caffine is each specific brand of pop such as coke or dr. pepper.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I tried to cut out caffeine but I love Coke too much. I have some a couple times a week usually.
mom2my2cuties replied: Have you ever tried the caffine free Coke??? I lived on that when I was pregnant with Mikee - and it tasted the same if I remember right.
ashtonsmama replied: I still do Starbucks quite a bit, but not usually get things there decaf (like frappucinos and such, and they taste fine).
My3LilMonkeys replied: I drank soda 3-4 times a week when I was pg with Madison and other than her 3rd eye, she turned out just fine.
Really, though, I think my Dr. told me 1-2 glasses of caffienated beverage a day was okay.
Boys r us replied: Okay..I'm a total bad girl!!!!!!! I tried to cut waaaay back when I first got pg...and I was absolutely miserable...and for what? I had two perfectly healthy boys who were normal weight(actually big for their gestational age when born..both of them born at 37 wks and weighed 7lb 2oz!!! imagine if they'd baked ofr 3 more wks?!) Anyhow with Brae And Tan, I drank my tea like always, usually a couple of glasses a day!
With this baby, I cut caffiene out in the beginning, but I was a real winch because of it and I couldn't even stand myself..I figured, I wasn't drinking alcohol, I was smoking cigs, I was taking my vitamins...a glass of tea was well deserved!
So anyhow, I'm not much help, i say drink your tea and be happy!
boyohboyohboy replied: this post reminded my of something funny that happened when i was preg with my last, i had drank a can of root beer, and had a piece of choc silk pie, for an afternoon snack, which might not sound all that weird for a preg woman, but i was a gestational diabetic, and i had been scrimping and eating hardly anything for such along time, that i was cheating in secret! well not for long, i felt that the baby hadnt really been moving that day, and i was paranoid so i called the dr and they sent me to the ob ward, and when i got there and was hooked up the monitor the babys heart beat was 200! i had made him higher then a kite! now i was so embarrassed to have to admit that i had cheated on my diet, and in order to stop them from rushing us to a neonatal cardiologist i had to tell the truth,. i was then told that caffeine is not good for the baby.
i had to see the cardiologist as a f/u just for their own peace of mind, but i knew it was the pie,and soda that did it! i never did that again. so jennie is right when she said that choc can be just as bad if not worse! just wanted to share.
My2Beauties replied: Yeah, my thoughts exactly I haven't cut down since writing this post! I'm drinking a glass as we speak actually, I can't go without it or I'm a total...you know what!
mckayleesmom replied: I was suppose to cut back on caffine? OOPS....
I drank the same thing I always drank.
coasterqueen replied: What about decaf tea? I drank that through my pg off and on and for the 1st year of Megan's life since I was nursing (as well as when I was nursing Kylie). Tastes the same
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I drink it sometimes but they never have it at restaurants or gas stations. It tastes ok, but it doesn't have the same bite.
mom2my2cuties replied: Sorry I couldn't remember. Mikee is 6 1/2 so it was over 7 years ago that I had that stuff
