Calling all horse people - question on a saddle

aspenblue1 wrote: I am trying to sell my saddle but I keep gettting a ton of questions I really don't know the answer to. I need some help and am wondering if I am not asking enough or what for this thing. It is a barrell racing saddle with high horn and back it had silver and stuff on it and the roping around the seat. Someone asked me if it had a BS on the larado and it does someone else asked if it was a Bobby Stivers saddle and my DH says it looks just like it so I guess so. They are asking me what kind of stirrups it has- I have no clue they made different stirrups. I am just not sure what it is worth. It has only been used like 5 times. I love it but I will not have anymore horses so I have to finally get rid of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

grapfruit replied: Can you take a picture of it??

I was into gaited horses, I only barrel raced for fun.

Some stirrups are metal...I do know that. Post a picture and that'll help!

luvmykids replied: Did you look underneath to see if it's stamped or something for the maker? I'm not sure what they mean by what kind of stirrups since the actual stirrup can be easily changed...I would use rubber ones sometimes and change them back but I don't think that would impact whether or not I'd buy a saddle so that question threw me for a loop.

I think I'd just tell them I don't know and offer lots of pictures laugh.gif How much are you asking for it? Since it's hardly used I'd think you could get a decent chunk for it.

luvmykids replied: It's gorgeous, I still don't know why they're asking about the stirrups huh.gif

I'd ask at least $700 for that, but you could probably start out even higher. It's tricky, people don't want to pay much since it's "used" but saddles aren't cheap and they can last a lifetime!

Or, you could keep your saddle and I'll send you a horse laugh.gif I'm needing to get rid of eight of them in the next month sleep.gif

aspenblue1 replied: Thanks, I love that saddle. When I bought it I paid 1200.00 for it then shortly after had to get rid of my horses. I was originally asking 600.00 on craigslist but didn't get any takers so I put it on Ebay starting bid 450.00 buy it now 650.00 with the blanket and the stand. People are watching it but not bidding on it so I didn't know if I needed to take if off and change the rate or what I needed to do. I had no clue what to ask for it I didn't know if I was giving it away or asking too much because I love it so much.

luvmykids replied: That stinks, it's beautiful. People want to steal it from you even if it's like new which yours is rolleyes.gif Good luck, whoever gets it is getting a great deal.

BAC'sMom replied: Stirrups can be made of wood, steel, aluminum, or even plastic (polymer). She’s a beauty! You might try your local feed stores and see if they will let you put in there.

Good luck thumb.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: dang that is gorgous, and If I had the horse or money for it I would buy it. MIL had horses but none of the older ones are really ridable. sad.gif she still needs to find one for Abby the minature horse of Kaitlins she has been riding bareback since the 2 they have dont fit

holley79 replied: When you sale a saddle you need to have the following questions answerable:

Brand of saddle
Tree size
Seat Size
What kind of Stirrups Here are some different styles of Western Stirrups.

It's best to know the brand you are trying to sale. Look online and see what the brand is going for new. Then google it for used of the same brand. this will give you an idea of what you can reasonably ask for it. I have a custom made Subben from Germany. I paid 1700.00 for it while I was in Germany. My car accident was 2 weeks after returning to the states. It has never been used. The highest offer I have recieved on it was 750.00. People don't want to pay prices. Do you have any local horse shows coming up? Sometimes going there and saling it is easier. Also if you have any local tack consignment stores.

luvmykids replied:
I know about all the different types of stirrups but I'm confused why people would care, they're not expensive and easy to change huh.gif

You have to remember people are difficult. If you don't have everything up that at one time, they will freaking drive you batty with questions. emlaugh.gif
