Can a Canadian please explain to me

cameragirl21 wrote: what the situation is with the Harper govt? I'm hearing that it's losing ground, that its approval ratings are plummeting, etc...is this true?
Also, what does it mean to be elected "best overall mp"?
Can anyone give me the 411 on Jason Kenney?
Thanks.... happy.gif

moped replied: I don't know about any of this gossip.....and who is Jason Kenney?

I will do some research!

cameragirl21 replied: Here is what led me to ask, Jen--http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1087973.html
My curiosity is piqued.... cool.gif

moped replied: Here is what I found on Jason Kenney, he is the MP for the SE section of the city I live in.....voted best MP is ottawa - just an honor for him I would think!

And is this the little issue with Harper?

http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/f...omplicated.aspx

moped replied:
I read the article, but didn't get any of that from the article.........

This is brand new information, i am sure all is well in Ottawa!

cameragirl21 replied: The talkbacks to this article in Haaretz suggest, or should I say, some Canadians in these talkbacks suggest that Harper's govt is a neo-con govt that is failing and that Canadians aren't happy with him.
Just wondering if any of this is true?
I really don't understand Canadian politics at all. blush.gif

moped replied:
Well I can't say a whole lot about it, but I would say that no it is not true.....people can say all sorts of things and make their own judgements, but is it a true statement, I would have to say NO!

moped replied:
I am very happy with him, but I am only one of millions of people..... smile.gif

Maybe Rocky will hop in on this, she is much more political than me!

cameragirl21 replied: Thanks for the 411, Jen.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Considering I work a 5 minute walk from the equivalent of your White House, yeah, I'd say I'm right in the darn middle of it here....

Harper's more a "westerner", he shares ideals with most of the western part of our country. The eastern part of our country is majoritarian liberal... and they are NOT HAPPY with Harper, because no offense to you guys, but Harper and his party are much more on the same page as the American Governement than the Liberal party was... and people are freeeeeaaaaking. My impression from it all, and this is purely based on working within a political environment (i.e - federal government, where your job is based on who is leading you...), is that people were dissatisfied with the crumbling economice under the Liberals... where really it was a global economic crumbling.. the scandals just added to the jitters... and they pinned it on the Libs rather than taking a good look at what else was going on. The Conservatives took power... and the economy collapsed anyway. By no fault of the liberals in canada... i mean, after all, you guys crashed first, we're still somewhat balancing.

Now, the federal workers are realizing more and more that we had it good with the Liberals in power - hence the mini-revolt they had a little while ago..about trying to overthorw the conservatives..

as far as I'm concerned..things are as smooth sailing as they ever were, at this moment, and I don't see the conservatives staying in power long. I do like some of their ideals.. but Stephen Harper is one ginormous piece of bum matter, and I really couldn't care less where he drops off to next. He's an arrogant son of a worm, and I cannot STAND seeing his face. growl.gif

*phew*

In any case - the next election, i can almost guarantee that the canadian public will revert back to the liberals... or at leasst the NPD. Conservatives SUCK. growl.gif

moped replied:
I guess that is why you and I don't always see eye to eye wink.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: lol... I meant the Conservative party at the moment, not "conservatives" oops! blush.gif

I actually like some of the Conservative party's ideals and goals.. I just don't like them if that makes sense.

moped replied:
I know what you meant!

CantWait replied: I think a lot of what the deal with Harper was especially at the beginning was his views on our troops being overseas. What people forgot though is that the Liberals are the ones that sent our troops over there in the first place, and Harper stood behind them.

I personally love Harper, but I am quite out of touch with Canadian politics for the most part being here. I don't get to hear a lot of what's going on.
