booey2 replied: Happy Thanksgiving, yes we have a jammed packed weekend planned. Starts tonight when I go grocery shopping (ha ha) . Then tommorow morning both boys swim - Thomas at 8:15am then Matthew at 8:45am. Then it is back to the house for a wedding next door for our neighbour/babysitter who is getting married in the other neighbours garden at 11am. Then it is off to another wedding at 3pm in Claremont (30 mins from here). My mom is coming to babysit for me and I am not too happy with that- oh well. Then on Sunday it is off to Kitchener (an hour and a half from our place) to my inlaws for thanksgiving dinner. Thankfully we can rest on Monday as my mom is going to do something on Sunday and we can't be there, oh well we will be at her place for Christmas this year.
Have fun - I will also be mia due to the previously mentioned activities.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: We are having 2 Thanksgiving Dinners. One on Sunday with my family at my sisters house and then one on Thanksgiving with my DH's family and our borders. I'm making a big turkey dinner, trying to convince my MIL to make the stuffing though!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

kimberley replied: here's a little Canadian history for you ....
In Canada, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October. Unlike the American tradition of remembering Pilgrims and settling in the New World, Canadians give thanks for a successful harvest. The harvest season falls earlier in Canada compared to the United States due to the simple fact that Canada is further north.
Harvest celebrations have been around a long time. Ever since the very first harvest, about 2,000 years ago, people have given thanks for a prosperous bounty. The first formal Canadian Thanksgiving was held just over 40 years prior to the pilgrims landing in Massachusetts. An English explorer named Martin Frobisher had been trying to find a northern passage to the Orient. He did not succeed but he did establish a settlement in Northern America and he did celebrate a harvest feast. This is considered the first Canadian Thanksgiving.
In 1957, Parliament announced that on the second Monday in October that Thanksgiving would be "a day of general thanksgiving to almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed."
During the American Revolution, Americans who remained loyal to England moved to Canada where they brought the customs and practices of the American Thanksgiving to Canada. There are many similarities between the two Thanksgivings such as the cornucopia and the pumpkin pie. According to one Canadian resource, the Canadian table usually features venison and waterfowl. Another source says that turkey and ham is the featured food. Conversely, a third source adamantly stated that when he was young "wild duck/goose was always served for Thanksgiving and, if they were fortunate venison as well! This was a common practice in that area at that time."

Well, for the very first time ever we are going out to a restaurant to have our turkey dinner! It's so much work to cook everything and have to clean up after..this way we can actually visit with everyone and not have to worry about dishes
There will be a bunch of us going so it'll be fun- and YAY! I'm very excited for not having to do all of those DISHES! LOL!!!!
Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!!!!
