Car seat question????
kayla's mama wrote: Where do you put the car seat?
I have Kayla's in the middle and she's still back facing. I have seen many cars with the car seat on the sides. Just curious as to which way is the safest.
Also, do you put foward facing in the middle or the sides?
TIA
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I have seen studies that say the the middle is the safest place. However, I have also seen studies that either the right or left side is safer. I have Logan forward facing (finally) on the passenger side. It's a matter of convenience and I can see him there.
1lilpeanut2love replied: I think it depends on the type of car you have. When our girl was first born we had her in the middle, now we have a mini van and her carseat is in the middlesection, facing backwards- they say leave it this way for as long as possible, and her seat is on the side closest to the door.
Check out this website thecarseatlady.com
Hope this helps you. Good luck!!
luvmykids replied: If I only had one I'd probably keep it in the middle as long as I could. But I like being able to see whoever is on the passenger side (they take turns).
kayla's mama replied: Thanks for the website. It is loaded with info.
redchief replied: Most newer cars have the LATCH system (tether anchor systems). You should use these tether anchors and the seat shouldn't wobble or slide. The safest place is passenger side, facing rear (it's also easier for you if driving to see your child). The center is safest as long as there's a LATCH point there, but most vehicles don't have one there.
There's a good chart for car seats here: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/portal/site/nhtsa...iewName=Article
My3LilMonkeys replied: We have one on each side. We tried 1 side/1 middle but they would take toys from each other.
Madison is on the passenger side b/c it's safest and she's the smallest.
MyLuvBugs replied: For all rear-facing babies they say it's best to have them in the middle. At least that's all that I've ever heard. But i think once they get turned around at 1 year, then you can put them on the side or middle. We just kept Lorelei in the middle for safety from side impacts. Just in case. But when the new one comes, it will be in themiddle and she'll be behind the driver's seat.
MyLuvBugs replied: Actually most cars have them in ALL three spots now days.
redchief replied: I know, but not knowing which vehicle was being discussed, I had to put that in.
~~*Missi*~~ replied: my husband ran baby depot at burlington coat factory and went thru car seat saftey with all the car seat manufacturers they carry and the state police. He says they teach you that the middle is the safest
camneely8 replied: I think they say middle because of the side impact crash risk when they are on the sides. Its help to minimize the impact to them if they are in the center obviously. Most of the newer cars should have LATCH in the middle, I know our Highlander does and we kept rear facing in the middle. When the front facing was put into the car we put it behind the driver side(was too big for the middle) so that we could easily watch him with the rear view mirror.
Madhu replied: Hi, I am having my first child in May. Been looking into the Graco Quattro Tour Deluxe Travel system. This one comes with a stroller and car seat. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?...000000001245860 How useful is this model? All feedback is deeply appreciated. I was looking at the options available in Baby Depot of Burlington Coat Factory and they don't carry Graco. Is that any reflection on its quality? Thanks! Madhu
