Cat owners how much do they eat?
TANNER'S MOM wrote: Well these cats are expensive. Between the litter..and I only buy the good stuff and the food they are more expensive than my dog for sure.
How much do your cats eat? I feed mine about five times a day it seems? I have wormed them and everythign and they still eat eat eat. I feed them one can a piece in the morning and then I have to refill their bowl with hard food about four times a day. It is a small two sided dish.. but man. That's a lot of food.
If I fill my dog's dish to full, she will eat that for about two days?
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Man they have you trained! Quit feeding them so much goofy! They will keep eating! Pretty soon they are going to start looking like the goats at the petting zoo the other day!
HuskerMom replied: I feed my cat twice a day. Usually whenever I get up and then once around supper time. He's pretty spoiled though cuz I give him treats too like once a day.
Jamison'smama replied: I feed my cats twice a day and only dry food. I also quit buying the expensive litter. I started using non-scoopable because it makes more sense for us to just dump it all out so I can scrub the littler box more often.
Boo&BugsMom replied: We have two cats, Taz who is 6 and Socks who is about 1. I fill their dish up with 2 cups each day (1 cup per cat) and that is all they get until the next morning. I do give them a treat each day as well, but it's not a whole lot.
Kaitlin'smom replied: Mel hun, your gonna make them FAT. They dont need so much food. I have 3 cats and we fill up the self dispensing one about once a month, dry Iams its all they get, well occasionaly some treats. But we stoped doing the moist long time ago, not only did it cut the expense they no longer fight over food...well unless its Tuna
cameragirl21 replied: you are overfeeding for sure. my cat gets her dish filled with dry food at all times and it's only about a two cup dish and she goest thru that about every 5 days or so. she also gets wet food treats from a can several times a day but it's never the whole can...she goes thru a can about every 3 days or so, sometimes 2. she is allergic to nearly every kind of meat so she can only eat duck (both wet and dry) and it's very expensive...she's literally eating foie gras! my parents' cat (that i've been taking care of for a couple years now while they do their motor home travel thing around the US) and 2 strays that she brought home that are pretty much mine now but live competely outside (whereas my cat is completely inside) get about 1/3-1/2 cup of dry food in the morning with some tuna on top, yes, you read that right, they get real tuna because they don't like the canned cat food as much and i'm a real pushover, and at night another serving of dry food only and sometimes we skip the night feeding...i only give it to them if they're by the door asking for it and they usually are but if i get home too late in the evening then they're usually already asleep. they're not fat but nor are they skinny...they look very healthy and if i fed them five times a day they'd all look like pigs. eta--i also buy the expensive clumping litter with cedar but i find i only have to change it about once a week because i scoop it out several times a day so it stays pretty clean. the cedar helps a lot with the smell too. i also buy liners for the litter box so the box itself stays clean so i don't have to scrub it out between changings, i used to hate doing that.
TANNER'S MOM replied: Well I can't help myself..when I go in the kitchen they meow at me..and want food. I hate to say strave..lol
Oh I like the cedar litter too. And I use the liners cause I hate scrubbing the box too.
Jamison'smama replied: My cats hate the liners, they shred them as much as they can
My3LilMonkeys replied: My cats are the same way....the second I sit up in the morning the 3 of them pounce on me and meow for their food. Boy do they get mad when I wake up at 4am to pee and refuse to feed them yet...
Anyway, the 3 of them share 2 cans of wet food a day (I'm slowly working them down to dry food only) and they have a small 2 sided dish for dry food and I fill that usually once a day, sometimes twice.
Paprikash replied: They will feed all day if you let them. In the wild, cats feed on a carcass all day once they make a kill, but they only make a kill once every couple of days. They will do the same in your home if you constantly provide food for them = HUGE.
grapfruit replied: When I get up in the morning to make Tim's lunch Psycho does the meow thing too, but I tell him, "No" and he goes away. He gets 1 MAYBE 2 fork fulls of wet food (usually at dinner) and then "crunchies" at all time. He doesn't like it when he can see the bottom of the bowl however. He'll get mad and bug me until I fill it completely full. LoL. He's spoiled too!
Boo&BugsMom replied: I give my cats one treat a day. A pouch of the moist bites, split in half that they share. I usually give it to them while the kids are eating their breakfast, but now they have gotten so impatient that they follow me around all morning until I cave. Our fat old one just stares at me with this sad look and our younger crazy one meows and follows me right under my feet. This morning they followed me to the basement, then upstairs into the bathroom, and everywhere else I went until I put the darn treat out. You'd think they were starving or something, but they usually even have a full bowl of regular food at that time. They're like children.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Ah yes, the "I wont eat because the bowl is not totally full" routine. Heaven forbid they eat the crumbs and tidbits at the bottom.
momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: The two cats I had got a spoonfull of moist cat food each in the morning and then they only had dry food throughout the day. They were indoor/outdoor cats so who knows if they were hunting outside. But, they didn't "bug" us for more food. We would keep their food bowl full, but they didn't gorge themselves either.
holley79 replied: Umm Mel think about when I horse gets into the feed room. They will eat till they just pop.
