Chemical free remedies for getting rid of ants?

MommyToAshley wrote: We have a couple of big ant hills in our back yard. I don't want to use pesticides because this is where she plays. I remember reading last year about some "home remedies" for getting rid of ants. Something about powdered sugar and baking soda? Anyone try this and did it work? What is the mixture ratio?

luvmykids replied: I'll try to find that thread for you, there were a million ways ... brb

Ant Remedies

MommyToAshley replied: Thank you!! Did you try any of those ideas? Did anything work for you?

luvmykids replied: I tried the baby powder, spraying vinegar, and a few of the ones with borax. They all worked, I think it partly depends on the kind of ants you have. HTH some!

mommy_me_me replied: cool, thanks for this thread, I have ant hills too where my kids play

holley79 replied: My mom use to use grits. After all the grits were taken into the ant's home then she watered the ant hill. Guess what happened. happy.gif

luvbug00 replied: Rice ( dried) swells in the belly and blows them up.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Cool! I hate ants.

I buy this stuff from www.domyownpestcontrol.com. It's not chemically free, but I use it around the whole yard about once a month or so and it kills everything from ants, mosquitos, flies, you name it. We let it dry for a day then it's safe.

ashtonsmama replied: OOH! I got one for ya! Our friends told us about this one--DEFINITELY WORKS in the house, I'm sure it would outside too, try it for sure!

DansMom replied: I didn't look at the list---this might be on it: sprinkle cinnamon.

PrairieMom replied: This isn't immedieately helpful, but Peony flowers attract ants, so I planted some on the side of my house farthest away from my kitchen, and I haven't seen a single ant! Maybe you can plant them in your front yard to draw the ants away from the back yard? Pluss they are so pretty and smell good!
