Cloth diapers??

Lisa wrote: Does anyone here cloth diaper?

I do. I didn't with my son but my sister did with her 3 youngest. I'm getting them from her for real cheap. I use all kinds. Prefolds with covers. AIO's and fitted diapers.

Just wondering if anyone else does too.

MomToMany replied: I do!! I do!! I love my prefolds!! I have bleached CPF"s and Bummis covers. I have recently bought a few AIO's to try. My mom is also helping me make some PUL covers.

I'm SOO addicted to them; I have to resist the urge to buy more!

Lisa replied: Cool. I know what you mean about being adicted. I'm constantly window shopping for them. I haven't had the money to get new ones yet but should soon.

MomToMany replied: Yeah, you know when your an addict when you look forward to doing diaper laundry wink.gif . blush.gif I'll admit I love doing diaper laundry blush.gif . LOL, I think I'm starting to get DH hooked. I got 1 of my AIO yesterday, and he said, "I could use these; I can't figure those other ones out though (meaning my prefolds)." Maybe he'll let me buy more....

coasterqueen replied: Lisa,

You work out of the home, is that right? I might be getting you mixed up with someone else, lol.

I would LOVE to cloth diaper but for one reason DH said he won't change ANY diapers if I do that and my day care provider isn't too thrilled about dealing with cloth too sad.gif I'm not so worried about the DH factor, but the dcp factor I am.

How do you deal with it?

MomToMany replied:
Karen, there are so many options when it comes to cloth. I'm sure you could work out something with your DCP. Maybe use All-In-One's at daycare and use prefolds or fitteds at home. AIO's are just like disposables, except of course you don't throw them out! There's no need for an extra cover.

Here's a link to get started on the different types.
If you have any more questions, let me know. I'll be glad to answer any you might have.

coasterqueen replied: Thanks Mollie. I just quickly browsed through that and HOLY MOLY! That sounds like a LOT of work, lol.

How am I ever gonna convince my husband and sitter??? DH's two younger siblings were cloth diapered and he remember *horror* stories of that whole thing as he always says.

Oh well, I'll look at it in more depth and maybe some day I'll get everyone on board, lol.

Lisa replied: Yep I work outside the home. My DCP is wonderful. SHe clothed with her kids when they were younger and she's soooo in love with my kids that i think she'd do it anyways LOL.. My dh is fine with them. He's never complained. I do all the laundry so he doesn't have to.

In fact my sister just bought me a pocket diaper that has strawberry shortcake on it. I'm sooooo excited.

Its a medium diaper if you want to look.

Whats nice with us is that we live in the country so we don't have trash pickup. Soooo twice a month we have to take our trash to the township house. This keeps the amount of stinky trash to a minimum.

MomToMany replied:
Here's another site that compares the cost of disposables and cloth. There's lots of other great information on it. I just showed DH how much we could save using cloth, and he was fine with it. He doesn't change any of the diapers, but oh well. I'd rather do it anyway smile.gif .

Diaper comparison

It can seem so overwhelming at first, but once you get the hang of what everything is, it's a breeze. I know I was really confused at first, too!

CDing has come a long way since his siblings were diapered thumb.gif ! He'll probably be surprised at all of the choices available.

Heather replied: HI girls. I used cloth on Alison for a few months but then Holly was born and I couldn't keep up. I actually made all my diapers and have just recently let them go on ebay. I never got around to using them on Holly because I didn't have any that would fit her. I am actually thinking about making some more using all the left over fabric that I have (which I have a lot of) and selling them so it doesn't go to waste. So if you need more stash just let me know smile.gif ..I will let you all know. smile.gif Here is a link to the fitteds that I made for Holly that are obviously way too big so I had to sell smile.gif

Lisa replied: Those look great. How cool. I'd be interested if you made some more.

coasterqueen replied: Wow Heather those are gorgeous! I'm almost convinced to do cloth just by looking at those cute diapers. I almost would hate for them to get dirty. ROFL.

MomToMany replied: thumb.gif Gorgeous diapers, Heather! I'd definitely be interested in some wink.gif !!

How funny and ironic... someone posted about this topic only a few days before I was thinking about it! smile.gif

When I was a baby, my mother used cloth diapers on me... and now that i'll be 3-months in just a couple weeks, it looks like i'll be carrying on the 'tradition'. I don't know what her reasons were for using cloth diapers, but the biggest incentive is sparing the environment more onslaught of disposable diapers (the second incentive is cost-savings, of course).

Me and my SO came up with a compromise -- at home, we'll use cloth diapers -- away from home, we'll use disposables. I love compromises, sometimes. cool.gif

raysnroof replied: I have used the AIO dipes and so on and so forth. I'm too old fashioned, I guess. I just prefer a flp of fabric and some pins. I have even made diapers out of old sweatshirts. I was surprised how absorbant they were!

mama3x replied: I used a diaper service for about 3 months (or maybe 6) with DS and bought diaper pants from them (Diaperaps). LOVED IT! I did the cloth thing after that for a bit with store-bought, wash my own. Didn't love it.

For DD, I used the same diaper service up until last month (July). LOVE the service and not having to wash my own. We have to pay for the community washer/dryer so it's a pain in the butt.

Disposables at night and for long outings though.

I enjoyed reading all of your posts! There's lots to learn here!
