Computer question - freezing

CantWait wrote: Ok so whenever I try to follow a link from somewhere, or try to hold down the Ctrl key to bypass popup blocker in order to enter sites etc my computer freezes.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I've already ran a virus scan, and adware, and cleared the history and cookies.

CantWait replied: It's also been highlighting certain words the last few days with a different coloured text.

It also won't shut down now. dry.gif

I'm also noticing that it (the computer that is..) won't let me open more then one IE window at a time.

mom2my2cuties replied: My husband (18 year computeer guru) says he isn't sure why it's doing that but if you go to Microsoft's website, you can download thier Window's Defender, it is a free download and that should fix your problem....smile.gif

CantWait replied:
Trying that, but it keeps freezing as soon as I hit the download button. mad.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: If no one here can help, I think there are some who would be able to help you out though. But as a last resort I would suggest calling The Geek Squad. They may also be able to offer assistance.

CantWait replied: Thanks Nic, unfortunetly when I clicked on that link, my computer frooze again huh.gif Fustrating.

mom2my2cuties replied: Ok - my husband says to reboot in safe mode with networking and then download it...And once it is downloaded and installed reboot into normal mode and then run the program.

ETA - And while that means absolutely nada to me smile.gif I can get him to type detailed descriptions of how to do it.

C&K*s Mommie replied: oh sorry, I forgot. blush.gif Here us the #1800-geeksquad. or 18004335778

Bee_Kay replied: Marie,

Restart your computer.... Shortly after it starts rebooting, run it in Safe Mode. While in Safe Mode, Clear your history and all the cached items through Window Explorer (there are a few places). Return to Normal Mode and then Download Bit Defender and also Spybot: Search and Destroy.

Also, when cleaning out all the crap, make sure you get all the folders where tid bits of history are cached.

I had to do this a couple days ago.

CantWait replied:
Ok I will try all above, but how do I go into safe mode. I know it's F-something.

Also Nic, is this FREE rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif That might be a really silly and dumb question but I have to ask.

CantWait replied: and is it 24/7?

mom2my2cuties replied:
F8 - just start hitting it when you are rebooting it smile.gif

And no geek squad isn't free - they are pretty expensive actually

CantWait replied: Nothing is working dry.gif dry.gif growl.gif
