Constipation?
lisar wrote: Okay this is embarassing. But I am pregnant as we all know. My question is I get constipated because of the vitamins. Does anyone know of any way to help with this. Besides taking a laxative that is way to strong and then makes things worse the other way... Sorry about the question I was just wondering.

mammag replied: You may want to talk to your dr. Mine said they had prenatal vitamins that have a bit of a softner in it as well because a lot of women have that problem.
amymom replied: Jeanie is right. Check with the doctor. Also, add fiber to your diet. Like cheerios, shredded wheat, things like that. I think I added citracal to my diet when I was pregnant. Can't remember.
SOUTHERN MOMMY replied: [SIZE=7][COLOR=purple]IF I WERE YOU I WOULD DRINK TONS OF WATER THATS WHAT MY DOCTOR TOLD ME TO DO AND IT WORKED
lisar replied: Thanks for the advice I go to the dr thrusday I will them and see what they say the water thing I have a major problem drinking water I cant stand it. Its the worse thing to me. So I will try.

ediep replied: my friend had this problem while preg, I am sure its pretty common.
Try adding fiber to your diet, shredded wheat and bran is a good one. Drink lots of water, maybe add some juice to it so it tastes better, raisin bran, apples, pears, peaches, raisins,
Jamielou replied: I had the same problem with both my girls in the begining and i just drank a lot of water and it all evened out later. The vitamens made me sick so i had to take them at night kinda like birth controll. But the main thing i noticed was the body aches. I had carley when i was 18 and delaney when i was 27 so there was a age gap there and i could really tell i was getting old the second time around.

~KARA~ replied: Im prego and have that problem at times too!! I try to drink as much Hot tea as I can stand. My dr gave me a "pregnancy packet" that has all the hospital info and what to do for certian ailments. For constipation is says
* eat fruits, veggies whole grain/bran cereals * excercise(walking is very good) * drink at least 2 quarts of fluid each day * A cup of hot water 3x's a day helps * bulk forming laxatives such as Metamucil, citrucel or fiberall * Stool softeners (colace(100 mg 1 or 2 tables daily) or surfak) or Milk of Magnesia(works fast so beware)
Don NOT USE- enemas dulcolax, ex-lax, correctol or mineral oil.
I hope this helps and you get the problem under control!!!
Lynda836 replied: I can't stress the water enough...especially if you're increasing your fibre intake. If you increase your fibre without increasing your fluid, you'll clog yourself even more. If you can't stand water, try flavoring it with something...but try to avoid stuff with caffeine, because it'll make you pee more instead of allowing the fluid to go to the bowel.
gr33n3y3z replied: No help here sorry They made me soooo sick I couldnt take them with any of my kids
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: It's the iron in the vitamins...you can either get new prenatals that don't have iron in them and then get iron by itself to take maybe every other day. You can also get iron from other things, so it's not a crime if it's not in your prenatal. Also, I ate a lot of Omega 3's which you can find at the health food store. Lots of flax seed and fish oil if you can handle it. If you're using any bulking agents such as fiber or the brand names like Metamucil, you must drink a lot of water. They won't help you go on their own. Fiber works as "small brushes" (that's the best way I can describe it! LOL) to flush out your colon, but you need water to push them through. They don't make it on their own!
lisar replied: Thanks for all the good advice. I am trying to drink more water. I am also eating a bran cereal to. (yuck) I am not the person who eats healthy while pregnant. I like my oreos to much. ( a bag a day) Thanks again.
Lisa
jcc64 replied: Sorry, but your Oreos could be part of the problem. Sugar absorbs alot of fiber from your body, as does any kind of refined carbs. Stick to the whole grains whenever possible. I make a spread by cooking dried apricots and prunes until they are totally melted and then spreading it on whole wheat toast with a little butter. Guaranteed to clean out the pipes, trust me. Popcorn also has a lot of fiber. But as has been stated previously, you can't drink enough water.
paradisemommy replied: gosh - mine has a stool softener in it cause i rarely have that problem but like everyone has already stated, you really need to drink a lot of water. i went a day without drinking hardly any water - at the end of the day, i felt like i had a bladder infection - when i realized the problem, i drowned myself in water and liquid and sure enough the symptoms went away..
like someone else said before - try flavoring the water - i know when i drink a lot of plain water, it makes me feel really bloated but add a slice of lemon and it makes all the difference in the world - or you can use something else to flavor the water - maybe start off half and half and then work your way up to where it is mostly water but just barely flavored...
homebizmom replied: When I was pregnant with my son I was really constipated...and the only thing that helped me was to drink 100% Grape Juice.
And as weird as it sounds, only certain brands worked for me. One brand of 100% juice didn't help, but another helped a ton! (Sorry, I can't remember which brand worked for me). I had to drink it everyday or I was really constipated.
Give it a try! Make sure it's 100% juice, not a juice drink! Try Welch's or Juicy Juice.
uwishucudfly replied: PRUNES AND RAISIN BRAN!! those two work wonders for me. I also would cut out a little bit of sugar from your diet, but that is just a suggestion.
stanleygirl replied: This will not be a popular answer, but I drank a cup of coffee once or twice a week, and it helped me so much! (My Dr said a small amount was fine, even a cup a day) And I also will add that I drank a lot of water too.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: What really healps me clean out my pipes...
A big mac from McDonalds. Actually, pretty much anything from McDonalds. A pretty sure bet within an hour, I will be exploding.... lol
