mummy2girls wrote: i have a odd question.... can u cook?LOL... I was just wondering because my sister who is a single mom can not so she orders out constantly which i think is unhealthy... and i have a friend that refuses to cook so she makes her kids wait until her hubby is home at 7pm for himt o cook dinner...

I love to cook and i cook for the parents i work for..

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I can and sometimes i will sometimes we do a lot of dinners out. It is usually more about my mood than anything else.

mckayleesmom replied: I normally cook at home,,,but sometimes we have that bad week where we just order out because Im burnt out on cooking.

Momof3inMe replied: I love to cook and cook most nights. If we go out to dinner or order out its on the weekends b/c i forgot to take something out to cook or we are just to busy!

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I can cook. It is the clean up I hate. I actually love cooking. I'm doing porkchops with mushroom gravy and rice and green beans tonight.

ediep replied: I am not really into cooking, but I do cook most nights. When my Dh is away on a work trip, I don't cook

Mom2BNTN replied: I can and do love cooking. However, if Dylan has has a bad day or if I am not feeling well then my hubby will just pick something up on his way home from work for us to eat.

luvmykids replied: I like to cook when I don't have to do it frantically, and I'm a pretty good cook. But mostly I just like to eat, so that is why I cook!

ilovemybaby replied: Hmmm kids need good nutrition. I'd probably try to encourage her to try to cook things. So what if she burns something or overcooks something? That's how you learn right? I can't count the number of times I have overcooked or burnt something.
I find most things fairly easy to cook. As long as you stay by the pans/pots and don't let the stuff burn or overcook. Meat is easy to cook. She could start with things like Roast Chicken. All she has to do is buy a chicken that is ready to cook (one she doesn't have to empty out EWWW lol) and stick it in the oven. Add a few tablespoons of butter. Most meat here comes with cooking instructions on the plastic wrap. I think a whole chicken takes about 2 hours but I'm not sure. I always buy chicken drumsticks or legs or wings or breasts. It's easy enough to tell if they are cooked or not. Just cut one open in the middle somewhere. If it looks pink then it's not cooked. If it runs blood then it definitely isn't cooked! LOL Sometimes though, if you cut by the bone it can still look red but that's ok. If it's just by the bone then it's fine.
And Corned Beef is even easier to cook. Stick the whole thing into a pot of water, boil and then cook for 45-50 minutes for every 500grams of meat. She just has to make sure that water doesn't boil over and keep the whole thing covered in water. She can boil the jug and add water if it gets low.
Potatoes... peel, boil for 30-45 minutes depending on size of pieces.
Same goes for Pumpkin and Sweet potato.
Mixed veges (frozen) and Broccoli... boil for 5 minutes.

She probably hasn't had any help learning to cook. My parents never taught me to cook anything when I lived at home. I had to learn by myself. I would phone my dad each night and ask him exactly how to cook things LOL I know it annoyed him a bit but hey, I didn't have much choice.
When I left home the extent of my cooking knowledge was baked beans, scrambled eggs and french toast and pancakes. blush.gif

MamaJAM replied: Yes - I can cook....and I do constantly. We don't get take out often....though I try to make enough to have leftovers at least once per week.

kayla's mama replied: I can cook but DH cooks better. He uses all kinds of seasonings that I never think of putting together.

My3LilMonkeys replied: I can cook but DH works nights so I rarely do. It seems kinda silly to cook for me and 2 kids (1 of whom can't eat everything) especially when I'm on a diet.

MiniMomy replied: Um..rarely

ashtonsmama replied: I used to cook more before I had Ashton, but I still love it, I'm just feeling lazy lately I think...

Esseilte replied: I can cook, though since I got married it's been harder, as DH is a vegetarian, and I am not. So that makes things interesting, to say the least. I'm more of a baker, these days. I don't work on Mondays anymore, so I spend the day cleaning around the house, and baking things for my office, and the dance studio where we take lessons. Last week it was Crème Brulée, this week it's thumbprint cookies and bunny tail cookies.

My mom is a professional pastry chef, and we're Sicilian on her side of the family, so I think it's just in my blood.

V. =)

MM'sMama replied: Yes and if i didn't this whole house would starve. rolleyes.gif

luvmykids replied:
LOL here too! No matter what, DH gives the kids beef jerky and yogurt any time I'm not here. If he has to do more than open it, forget it. rolleyes.gif

MM'sMama replied:
I don't think mine can even do that. rolleyes.gif Yes I'd like to order a pizza. emlaugh.gif

Nina J replied: I love cooking, sometimes I cook dinner in the afternoon and then heat it up when it's actually dinner time. Or I might cook something and freeze it so I don't have to make dinner the next day, but we don't have to order in.
DH likes cooking to, so I don't have to every night.

We do order in occasionaly.

holley79 replied: I enjoy cooking and do does DH. I mean I'm not gourmet but I hold my own. blush.gif

3xsthefun replied: Yes, I can cook. I don't mind doing it, I just don't like cleaning up afterwards. We hardly ever eat out anymore.

JP&KJMOM replied: I love to cook but not always. The worst part for me is figuring out WHAT to cook every night. I admit it is easier now that my kiddos are older and will retty much eat anything we eat. But I still HATE it. jason cooks alot too and is a wonderful cook so I can not complain to much. Matter of fact he is cooking tonight. tongue.gif

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: I cook most everynight, unless we can't decide what we want and then we might order out. I don't mind cooking, but I LOVE to bake.

Kaitlin'smom replied: yes I can cook my mom taught us plus we took classes in school. I dont mind it except there are tons of recipice I want to try but DH is a bit on the picky side, so alot of them I can'y do. We are pretty simple cooks. SOme ngihts we have breakfast or a what ever night if we busy, or fogot to get soemthing out. my biggest problme Kait is always hungry when we get home and does not want to waite for daddy to get home.
