Coughing fits and other stuff - about quitting smoking

Bee_Kay wrote: For the past 2 days, I cough ALL DAY LONG! I can't hardly finish a sentence without having to "clear my thoat". My mom commented to my sister "Barb coughed during our whole phone conversation".
My sister responded "Jeez Mom she JUST quit smoking! Of course she is gonna cough!"
My mom says "Well, I think there is MORE to this cough than just quitting smoking!" rolleyes.gif

On the flip side.... I smelled coffee brewing this morning, which is something I haven't really smelled in ages.

Last night, while reading a book, I could actually smell my scented candle burning.

And on the gross side..... this morning, as soon as I got out of bed, was the first time (in a really long time) that I could actually taste AND smell my breath. I've never bolted to my toothbrush so fast in in the morning!!

Also.... guess what I noticed today?? I have been avoiding going outside, driving anywhere and talking on the phone! All the places/things I did while smoking. I haven't even conciously thought that I was avoiding all that, but I guess I have.

I noticed that I am using the inside of my home as sort of a "safe place".

My3LilMonkeys replied: It will get easier with time - keep up the good work!!!!

AlexsPajamaMama replied: Oh Barb great job!! Keep it up!! hug.gif
Coffee brewing smells so good doesnt it!?
Driving places was my weakness when it came to trying to quit....
....it gets easier though!!

MyLuvBugs replied:
But that is a good thing! smile.gif B/c once you conquer the addiction in your home, you can start to conquer it else where. KWIM? Just keep it up!! hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

CantWait replied: The coughing is normal. Your body is just ridding itself of the toxins. You're already starting to see the benefits of not lighting up. Keep up the great work. We're here if you need to vent during the process. hug.gif

Bee_Kay replied: Thank you all so much.

I've quit smoking more times than I remember.

But, this time it's different. I have this picture in my head of my daughter, Ashley, smoking a cigarette and it scared me to death.

amymom replied: Yipee!!! for you. I am very happy for you. Good Job!

amynicole21 replied: Good for you!! I remember waking up every day and marvelling that yet ANOTHER day had passed since I quit. It's such a feeling of accomplishment. Keep up the good work! thumb.gif

luvmykids replied:
thumb.gif WTG Barb! I'll try to find the list someone sent me of all the changes that happen when you quit and in what time frame. It's helpful for motivation but you're going to make it, I know it! hug.gif

PrairieMom replied: There are tiny hairs in your airways called cillia. They are there to help move mucus and other tiny particles you inhale up and out of your lungs. When you smoke it causes these hairs to stop moving, so when you quit it wakes them up again so they can do their jobs! when you have less junk in your lungs it should get better! Good for you for quiting! thumb.gif Keep up the good work!

Bee_Kay replied: Tara!
Your signature pic is beautiful!!!

PrairieMom replied:
Thanks! I siezed the oportunity at dinner this evening! I'm holding The Boy's hands down because he was sticking his thumbs in his ears and sticking out his tongue! rolleyes.gif laugh.gif I loke it because I am hiding my post prego belly behind his chair, but am taking advantage of my new cleavage! rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

Bee_Kay replied:
Yep... can't see any tummy.... and Yep, there's that cleavage!! wink.gif

holley79 replied: When I quit the first time I went into coughing fits also. It was horrible. It lasted about 2 weeks.
