Cradle cap and baby acne
coasterqueen wrote: Kylie never had cradle cap so I'm clueless what to do with it. What are your tried and true tips?
Also Megan is in the nasties of baby acne..it's worse than Kylie's ever was. What do you put on it. My recollection is we put on Kylie the Bactroban cream that the PED prescribed. I still have some, can I use that. Does anyone remember using Bactroban cream for baby acne?
Jamison'smama replied: Jack had a nice case of both--Jamison neither one. For the acne, my doctor said to do nothing. Just keep him clean with water only and it will go away on it's own--and it did, not soon enough for me but we never put any medication on him and his was pretty bad.
As far as cradle cap, first you try the oil massage, he recommended using baby oil or olive oil, natural oils are better I think. When that didn't work, he had us use Selson Blue Dandruff Shampoo--just a little and being very careful to not get it in the eyes. It is pretty much under control, just a small patch here and there--it was HORRIBLE at first. Pimples and a flaky scalp--he went through some sad looking days!
kit_kats_mom replied: That's what we did too except for I used the head & shoulders regular and worked it in with a baby brush. I also kept a clean washcloth and wiped her face down a few times a day with water.
mummy2girls replied: jenna has a nasty case of cradle cap... baby oil worked wonders. I swear her head looked like a grease puddle. You could squeeze the oil out..LOL
A&A'smommy replied: BABY OIL lol like everyone else said that helped with Alyssa and then you peel it off or at least I did but actually I was told too
3_call_me_mama replied: Cameron had really bad baby acne and cradle cap. I was told by his ped not to put anything on it, except on the cradle cap i could use hydrocrotozone cream if i wanted. ANd to wash the face with warm water only, nothing else. It cleared up in about 2-3 weeks. But looked AWFUL until it cleared up... Kathleen had the acne bad too but the cradle cap wasn;t visable because of all her hair
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Mineral oil worked for us. And peeling it.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: You guys make me cringe when you use the word peeling...but I know what you mean! I used an organic baby oil by wedela...it smells really good. And then took one of those soft baby combs and combed the flakes off. You have to go in circles sometimes, but make sure there is a lot of oil on the scalp first. I did this on the face too, because Wil had scales on his face as well. Make sure it's a flexible comb that isn't scratchy. And you just gently move it in circles. As far as acne, I just left it alone and of course eventually it goes away. I really don't think there is much you can do about it. Normal.
DansMom replied: Oils are a good way to go for the scalp, and California Baby has a nice Calendula cream that I used on Daniel's cheeks and other areas when he had dermatitis. Avoid steroid creams (like Cortaid), even though they work miracles---some steroid does pass into the bloodstream. This does sound just like Daniel's skin as an infant, so I'm thinking the food allergy possibility is even more likely.
I hate to suggest this---you'll hate it: maybe it's not dairy, but soy or wheat. If you go six weeks on the milk-free diet without improvement in the acne or the reflux, I would eliminate soy for a while, then wheat... you'll get sick of chicken and rice at every meal... then if something seems to work, you slowly reintroduce the other foods one at a time. I didn't, by the way, do ANY of this when Daniel was an infant. I discovered his allergy at about 7 months, and didn't recognize his earlier symptoms for allergic reactions when he was experiencing them.
Don't worry too much though! A lot of babies have acne and cradle cap, and it's not always allergy related.
coasterqueen replied: I knew someone was gonna tell me that. I figured if not now my BF guru friend would tell me when I go to see her on the 18th. SIGH.
She has major flaky yellow-ish skin on her face, it's gross. Now if I cut out soy and wheat...what will I eat? LOL. Don't like rice so is chicken it? Oh my. Dh keeps saying "if she has these allergies like this I'd be quitting BF QUICKLY". I responded with I think we can deal with the dairy elim diet...but I'm not so sure if I have to eliminate soy and wheat. Oh my!
Kaitlin'smom replied: Kait had baby acne, it got horribly dry and chapped so I was told to use vasaline on it. and she had a very mild case of cradle cap/dry scalp was told just to uses good use my fingers to help loosen it and rinse well.
hope it gets heeled and its not your diet
I would have a horrible time giving up dairy, so I applaud you. how long have you been off it now
coasterqueen replied: Thanks. I'm on day 11 and have lost 5 pounds so far as of to-date. Actually the losing weight is not a good thing because it can affect supply, and it is to a degree. I'm trying to find some more foods that I can eat so I'm not literally starving. I wanna lose weight, so that's a good thing, just can't lose it that fast.
NOW, if I have to elim soy and wheat.....Oh My! I don't even wanna think about that.
Kaitlin'smom replied: so you get the bad and the good, hope you can find something to eat. I know your picky, hope you can find yummy things and maybe you will discover something new
gr33n3y3z replied: Never use any oil on cradle cap it clogs the pores
Use Selson Blue Dandruff Shampoo
chloe&tysmommy replied: yeah we did this too...
Tyler had bad cradle cap and we used baby oil and let it sit for an hour or so and then we took a soft baby comb (with the bristles really close together) and peeled it off. I hated using the comb on it so I made my mom do it
