Credit Card Fraud - We didn't think it would happen to us

coasterqueen wrote: Well, it happened. Someone got ahold of our credit card #, pretty sure through an internet purchase, and they almost was successful at making several charges on our card. mad.gif So we've canceled that card and now we need to run credit reports and check other cards to make sure nothing is wrong with them.

I despise some people. Why do they have to do this? Why do they have to be so evil? growl.gif

We have only made 2 purchases on our credit cards this year since we made a rule they can't be used anymore in less emergency situation. One was an emergency, the other was not -but quickly paid off.

So frustrating!

Kaitlin'smom replied: mad.gif it is while thankfully I have not experienced the my MIL did. Someone was using her credit in Califorina, we live in Ohio. She was pretty mad when she got turned down for a car loan years ago, and found out the things she 'owned' in CA.

Hope it was only one and you get it cleard quickly.

mom2my2cuties replied: Sorry this happened to you - hope you get it cleared up soon!

CantWait replied: Sorry Karen. Hopefully the rest of your numbers have been untouched and your credit in tact. hug.gif

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Karen I know how you feel, that happened to me earlier this year. Hope you get everything worked out.

C&K*s Mommie replied: I cannot say much for the poor choices of others who choose to break the law, and potentially ruin others lives by ringing up unauthorized charges on their cards. mad.gif

I am glad that you were on your toes, and noticed something awry.

moped replied: Ahhh that is too bad, I am sorry. Remember when I posted that my PIN number was taken as well as the person made a new bank card and they withdrew $1000.00 - that was freaky for us. My cousin DH is a police and he said that in this city of 1 million there are hundreds of rings around the city that make new bank cards and credit cards..............

My2Beauties replied: Karen that is so scary. I am so glad that you were able to find out quickly and hopefully before they purchased anything! I hope they catch those low-lifes!

booey2 replied: Sorry this has happened, that really sucks. Glad you caught it early. hug.gif

coasterqueen replied: Yes, I am very thankful that Ryan caught it early. Yesterday, after I cashed that check, he went to pay off the brakes that we charged on that card through online pay and he noticed the "pending" charges. He called the CC company and told them we did not make the charges so they said they would investigate. Last night he got a call from their Fraud dept. and they asked him again if we made the charges and he said no so they cancelled the card immediately and the charges did not get approved. WHEW! If Dh hadn't made a payment to it yesterday a month would have gone by before we knew about it and things could have been much worse!

msoulz replied: I totally feel for you. Thank goodness you caught it! These things are tough to handle as you then have to disprove that you made the purchase or whatever was done.

My DH's social security number was stolen. We found out when I got a shut off notice from the phone company becuase of the 5 unpaid accounts that were open in his name in the city of Detroit. Then we found a credit card that had been opened; fortunately it only had one small purchase on it. But it had been going on for months before we found out and we are quite lucky that nothing else happened. Now and for the rest of our natural lives we must maintain a fraud alert on our credit reports, as once the number is out there you are basically screwed.

OH, and a professional organization to which I belong lost some information that included MY SS# in it this year. What a pain.

I'm glad the credit card company didn't hassle you. That is great. Just keep an eye on your other stuff too in case they were able to get more information about you. hug.gif

MoonMama replied: This kind of thing really ticks me off! growl.gif mad.gif growl.gif I don't understand how people can do such a horirble thing. We have legal shield so they are pretty on top of things and everything is taken care of for us if heaven forbid it ever happens to us. But I am still always terrified it will happen, esp with DH who buys things off ebay and uses paypal all the time. sad.gif I am so sorry this happened I hope you can get everything taken care of and quickly. hug.gif sad.gif

luvmykids replied: growl.gif Some people just flat out suck! I have no patience for people who do that kind of stuff!!! When we were buying our first house we found out someone had been applying for all kinds of stuff with DH's social....thank goodness he had bad credit back then and it all got denied.

Glad you guys caught it, I hope that's the end of it!

TheOaf66 replied: well to go along with that...a card that Jennie and I had cancelled over a year before got used. We all of a suddent got a $1200 bill in the mail that showed someone had bought plane tickets and Euros in Ireland. I asked if she was planning to run away with someone rolling_smile.gif We put a fraud alert on our credit report and then when Jennie tried to get a dept. store charge card it was a big hassle mad.gif It happens to the best of us but sorry it happened to you

5littleladies replied: That sucks Karen! I'm so glad you caught it early! I just don't understand people sometimes. growl.gif

A&A'smommy replied: growl.gif I don't understand some people!!! hug.gif I hope they didn't get ahold of your others!!
