DOH! that husband of mine! grrr
kit_kats_mom wrote: So we have been trying to potty train K or at least get her interested again. Well, she went tonight and we were making a big deal out of it. Then she went up to her dad and said "can I have my chocolate and my lollipop now please dad". He gave it to her. Later I told her that I was proud of her but that we don't get treats everytime we go potty. DH said um....I told her she gets two chocloate kisses and a lollipop every time she uses the potty. I looked at him with what was apparently the crazy face, because he backtracked and said, "We can wean it from her after a week or two". What the heck!?!
We will be having a discussion tonight. She's all about routine and I see her asking for kisses and lollipops everytime she pees, well into her 20's
I guess she will get them for the next bit, and I'll be reading up on how to correct terrible parenting mistakes after they've been made.
mommy2owen replied: Ben did something like that with Alyssa too! He could tell that it anoyed me so he told Alyssa to tell me that she will go all by herself if I wasnt mad a daddy anymore! I had to give in
coasterqueen replied: LOL. I guess I'm w/your dh on this one because I did the same thing w/Kylie. Honestly though, after about a month she stopped asking for it. We only offered an m&m though, not the amount your DH is offering.
WTG K!!!!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I tell you, those daddies! What are we going to do with them???
2 kisses and a lollipop, huh? Maddie got M&M's too.
A&A'smommy replied: OH goodness WOW wellll.... sometimes men don't think so well I know mine doesn't ever... Good luck with that I hope you can correct that easily!!
Josie83 replied: Ugh how annoying! I hope you manage to break this habit . . . well done on K going to the potty tho! That's great! Sometimes I wonder HOW exactly our husband's minds work (don't get mad Ed, DV Flyer and Rod!! ) xx
ediep replied: well....maybe after a while she won't ask for the treats everytime she goes. WTG Katherine for using the potty!!!
DansMom replied: Oh yes, this sounds familiar. It's great that she's interested again though!
Kaitlin'smom replied: humm what do we do with them, that sounds like an awful lot. Kaitlin will sometimes get m&m's wtg K for using the potty
5littleladies replied: Wow-I wish someone would offer me 2 kisses and a lollipop everytime I went to th bathroom.
That sounds like something my hubby would do. I hope you can get it corrected with no problems.
Boys r us replied: Well, to give you a glimmer of hope..we did the same thing with braedon..we HAD to get him interested. So once he was going on a regular basis I just explained to him that now he gets one sweet tart for peeing and one mini chocolate for pooping..he was pretty receptive and he did ask for his usualy chocolate after peeing the first few times..but I just reitereated that he only gets it for pooping now..."remember" and he's fine with it. Now he goes to the potty by himself and doesn't even tell us he's gone..so he's over the whole needing a reward..I'm sure K will be fine
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I used to use smarties when potty trained Spencer, but it was just 1 or 2 smarties and once he really got the hang of things we stopped giving them to him. A friend of ours used Hotwheels cars to get her son potty trained, I think that's just a little crazy.
kit_kats_mom replied: lol. that's what I told her.
My2Beauties replied: Wow - I can understand a small reward - but that sounds like a lot, a whole lollipop! LOL...YAY for K going to the potty BTW!
GavinsMommy replied: Oh dear, I hope this doesn't get out of hand!! Every time is a bit much! LOL
DVFlyer replied:
*Letting that one go. Fighting the urge to make a joke........*
His reward seems like a lot to me too. Maybe an M&M. If I got that treat every time I went, I'd be... well.... fat!
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: That was how we started with Katy...Either she got a candy (hershey's minature) or a sticker. Now her big reward is getting to wash her hands...with soap (she is an OC hand washer, so it really is a treat:))
ian'smommy replied: I am in the process of potty training Ian... I don't give him ANYTHING... We celebrate with real hugs and kisses and that seems good enough for him. He is so proud of himself when he goes... He runs into the living room and announces to everyone that he peed in the potty. I would not be opposed to giving a reward to him if it was needed to get him interested. Whether it be a small candy/chocolate, or even a small cheap toy... Nothing expensive since we aren't made out of money. The amount K gets seems like a lot for each time that she goes... Maybe the reward can be modified so she gets a smaller dose... Ian is doing well. He pees everytime I take him and occasionally he poops... Now we have to somehow work on, telling me he has to go before he goes...
