Darn car salesman!

coasterqueen wrote: First let me say I apologize if I offend any one who is, is married to, or is friends with a car salesman. Not my intentions.

Anyways some of you may know I was attemting to see if it was do-able to trade in my current Chrsyler T&C limited for a new one so I could get the stow and go. I gave the gentleman exactly what we had to work with via email and asked him if it was do-able. We conversed via email a bit and eventually he said to make an appointment. So I called and was to go see him this afternoon. Well I went out there and he said "are you sure you want a T&C limited because we have a Touring model" and he explained to me the differences. He thought the Touring would be more do-able. I said "well let's work the prices on both the Touring and the T&C Limited". He said ok, I know we could do the Touring.

So he worked out all the prices, looked at my car for the trade-in value and came back to me with the numbers. I looked at them and said "nope, no where near the area of the means I have". He looked at me and said he didn't understand why this wouldn't work. I explained what I had to work with and how everything had to go to get a new car. He said "oh well if you would have told me that in the beginning I would have told you there was no way to do it this way".

HUH? WTF? I wrote it out in email and told him when I got there. mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif So I wasted an hour of my time, wasted his time and didn't get a new van. I don't care about the van because I was pretty sure it wasn't do-able but thought I would check. BUT I'm peeved that we could have settled this via email and he made me come all the way out there because he thought he could wheel and deal me. mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: Gurrrr, did you say to him I explained this in the e-mail? Did you know read it? I personaly have not experieced a bad salesman but I was witness to one, and sometimes I think if the get you there they can bend you to there terms not yours. I loved my last salesman so much I sent him a thank you gift. I did the same thing to the one I bought my first new car from, sorry off topic....it sucks they wasted you time.

coasterqueen replied:
Yeah I told him all that PLUS I had a lot of obscene words running through my mind. I was biting my tongue trying not to chew him a new one. blush.gif mad.gif

I have NEVER EVER had a good salesman no matter where we've gone. One time this salesman tried to sucker me into buying something because of this particular feature. I said to him "I don't give a F about that feature, I care about this and this only!". Because I had told him exactly what I wanted and he just wouldn't listen.

At least I only wasted an hour today, could have been worse. rolleyes.gif

Josie83 replied: :banghead; That must have been so annoying. Some people ar ejust DENSE

Maybe you should get Scotty (Aimee's husband) to sort something out for you lol: xx

coasterqueen replied:
I definitely would have asked Aimee to have her Dh work some figures for me, but she's on vacation. Oh well now I know it wasn't do-able. I figured it wasn't anyways. rolleyes.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied:
I proably would have gone off a bit about wasting MY time and such. GUess I have been lucky at my Sautrn dealership they are all sooo nice, and really have made the process of buying a car for me easy. I so love my Relay, sure I thoguth about the T&C for the stow and go but It was not in my price range and i got tons more fetures free that were 'extra' on the T&C

anyway its a bummer it could not work out

coasterqueen replied: Di,

Our Saturn dealership here won't even talk to you unless you are sure you are going to buy one of their cars. We wanted to test drive one and talk to them to see if we could afford to buy one (this was years ago) and they explained their *policy*.

I do love those Saturn Relays. They are great.

BTW, I didn't know the extras on our Limited where "extra". tongue.gif Dh just picked out the one that was fully loaded and said that's the one I want, traded in his car and said "here hun, I got you something you've always wanted". tongue.gif Which he did. Darn stow and go came out the next year. dry.gif tongue.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied:
OMG I would have never guessed they would do that, I hope they have changed there policy. Heck for fun when the Shy comes out I might go test drive it, cant afford it, well mor elike inpractical haveing a 2 seeter with a family of 3

ammommy replied: Do you have a Carmax in your area? They seem pretty on the level around here.

mammag replied: Ooh that would have made me so mad. The plan was that you would get there, fall in love with something and get it regardless of whether it was the best thing for your family or not. I hate those sleezy tactics!!!

Sirax replied: I couple of weeks ago I was trying to decide to fix the transmission in our Caravan or trade it in. So I drove around to just look at what was available, no intentions of stopping. I drove in 3 car lots, had sales-people from each lot come up to my truck, which I never actually stopped moving, trying to get me in to "work" some numbers.

Because of that experience, I just decided to fix ours.

3xsthefun replied: I'm really sorry, you didn't get the van you wanted. I would had been really upset also. Do you have any other dealers around you besides them that sell the van with the stow & go? If so I would try somewhere else even if you have to drive 30 mins away.

Sometimes I almost think the smaller dealerships are better. That is where we found our Subaru and the guy was really great. But then again sometimes the bigger guys are better. It just depends who your salesman is and all.
