Decorating Advice - What do you think of these colours?
CantWait wrote: One wall will be chocolate brown, maybe 2, rest will be tan, or a very very barely there light brown, on the one chocolate brown wall I was going to put up either tan or a green drape to bring in some colour. WDYT?
mckayleesmom replied: I like the chocolate brown ( but not to dark) with the tan.....and the mint drapes sound pretty too.....or Lavender would and cream drapes would be pretty too.
Tip....My mother in law has these really pretty swags that she decorated around her curtain rod and they flow down the sides....I asked where she bought her curtains and she informed me that they weren't curtains...She just went to walmarts sewing material section and picked out some sheer material....intertwined them and draped them over...it looks really pretty and expensive.
mckayleesmom replied: Also..a greyish baby blue color would look pretty too....Ok..Im shutting up now because it isn't even my living room
JadensMama05 replied: Sounds pretty beautiful to me. I'm picturing that color scheme in my living room and would be amazing, I think. Our living room is a medium grey with black and white accessories/accenting. Your idea sounds lovely.
Nina J replied: I like the chocolate and tan with green drapes..or cream drapes, like Brianne said. That would be really pretty
C&K*s Mommie replied: I like that too. Or maybe you could do brown 2/3 of the way up the walls and tan the remaining 1/3. But it sounds great the way that you have it planned. Post pics when it is done.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Marie, my living room walls are mostly all chocolate brown, except for my fireplace wall, which is a light tan, and my hallway is a light tan. My couch and wing chair are light green.... and I have a sheer olive green fabric (from walmart... lol) that I haven't yet put up, but that will be going around my bay window.
So I think it will look nice.
sparkys2boys replied: Marie, I think it sounds very nice. I love deep rich color. so the chocolate brown sounds great!
3xsthefun replied: It sounds pretty. I think the green or creme drapes would look good.
coasterqueen replied: Gosh I don't know Marie because I'm terrible at this, as you know. I tend to like to leave all the bigger accessories, drapes and such more neutral and use other accessories to POP in color. Like paintings, candles, vases, etc to bring in the color.
I was watching a show on HGTV late the other night and the whole room was done in cream and a dark taupe color and even the furniture/drapes was in the tans/browns and the accessories were in color. Actually the one item that I remember the most bringing color into the room was one painting above the fireplace. That painting alone was just ALL color and it was such a POP of color that as soon as you walked into the room IT was what drew you into the room. Is this even making sense?
So I personally would stick to neutral on drapes and use other stuff to bring in your color. But like I said I don't know anything about this stuff. Green would be too daring for me.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I have, on my fireplace mantle, 3 reddish vases, a willow tre figureine, and hung on the wall above, a reddish wall tile, hung diamond side up (instead of square side up), and I have a painting over my couch with is all in browns, and reds.
I can take apicture of my living room if you like, to give you an idea of what it looks like.
CantWait replied: I like pictures.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Ok, I will take some once the daycare kids leave, which won't be long from now.
MotherForever2043 replied: I think it would look beautiful. You're so creative. I'm not very good with combining colors.
CantWait replied: Creative in this sense I think not, but thank you. It's only taken 6 months to come up with this combo.
mom2my2cuties replied: Marie - I think those colors sound well together. For some reason it reminds me of Olive Garden With the brownish walls and the purple and green (Think grapes)
Ok so I am hungry for Olive Garden but still
