Diaper rash
holley79 wrote: Well last night Annika had a very severe diaper rash. We let her run around bare bummed. As soon as she got to CCP's this morning she was bare bummed again. We have used creams, changed diapers, etc. I am just as my wits end. She is drinking tons of water so I don't think it's that. Any juice she drinks is diluted. I have done every thing and anything to make it go away, keep it mild and what not. I'm ready to scream and I know she is screaming. I have tried OTC yeast creams, butt paste, A&D and Desitin. Anyone else want to give me a suggestion? Can it be her diapers? I have swtiched brands trying to get rid of it to no avail. I am to the point where I am ready to start looking at cloth (never had anything against it) but I just don't know if I have the time or the patience. I'm sure if I strted using them it wouldn't be too bad but still.
So I guess this was an advice seeking rant.
amynicole21 replied: You might want to try a different yeast cream. Sometimes the type of yeast won't respond to one kind or another. Nora had a horrible rash when she was on antibiotics last week. It was really awful Also, try to get her to eat yogurt every day. If it is yeast that should help.
I hope Annika is feeling better soon!
holley79 replied: I have tried three different type of OTC yeast creams so it make sme wonder if that is not it. She eats yogurt daily at home and at CCPs I have also used Malox (which the pedi recommended back when she was a newborn to nuetralize acid.) I am just at my wits end with it. I feel so helpless with it.
CantWait replied: Holley, I just posted a thread about a recall on baby wipes. Let me see if I can find it.
CantWait replied: Here it is:
Wipes Recall
holley79 replied: Marie, I wish it were that. I don't use those wipes. Normally I only use wipes when she has had a BM the rest of the time I just use a cool baby cloth or don't use anything at all.
PrairieMom replied: I use some stuff called Dyprotex. It works every time. I can only find it at walgreens. it doesn't come in a tube like other creams. it comes with this spongey applicator. Here is a link.

CantWait replied: Crap!!!! No pun intended
Hope it clears up soon.
Cece00 replied: Have you brought her to the ped?
I recommend some Boudreaux's Butt Paste.
If it still hasnt cleared, I'd try new diapers.
holley79 replied: Honey I have tried it ALL (Except what Tara just mentioned so I am going to go try that.)
It isn't quite as red now. We let her run around bare bummed for the most part last night. I would just watch her closely and try and catch her before she pee or pooed on the floor. I am kind of thinking it might have been her apple juice. I diluted it but maybe I didn't dilute it enough. She didn't get any juice yesterday. We will just have to see.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Yuck... poor thing!!! Has she eaten anything different? It could be allergic reaction. Also, if she's teething or coming down with something, her poop might be a little more acidic than usual, and that could be the cause too.
holley79 replied: I didn't think about maybe her being sick being the cause for more acid. Thanks Rocky. I thought maybe it was the apple juice since I changed from baby juice to regular 100% apple juice.
3_call_me_mama replied: Doubt it is teh juice. baby apple juice is just regular apple juice in smaller bottles and a higher price! LOL This si exactally what happened to kathleen right after she turned a year old.. then we switched to cloth adn no more rash. somethign to do with acid changes in her body her Dr said. Once you get a tiny littel open sore then teh rest just flares right up> Nothing will cure it but a warm bath and a bare bottom. Good uck.. and send me that address adn I'll get that address to you!
Boo&BugsMom replied: Have you tried Triple Paste? That's my recommendation for serious butt rashes. It's expensive, but well worth the $$$. Keep her away from citric acid if you can. That might make her rash worse.
holley79 replied: I've been using a triple ointment the Dr gave her when she was about 4 months old and had a little bit of a rash. I have also used Butt Paste, A&D, Desitin, and OTC yeast creams. I didn't think about citric acids. I guess I need to label read a little bit better.
Thank you ladies. You are all most helpful I don't know what I would do without all of you.
Cece00 replied: I was going to say the SAME thing. My older boys used to get a really bad rash if they had too much citric acid...I'd give them OJ and it would be BAD.
paradisemommy replied: well this may sound a bit odd but we went through a bout of really bad diaper rash with taven - i tried everything under the sun and found what worked for us was plain old cornstarch (like you cook with) - just use it like a powder..it was the only thing that would dry it up and start healing it..
Boo&BugsMom replied: I've actually heard that before!
holley79 replied: Someone else mentioned that to me also. I did use that and I used Corona cream. I had some in my tack trunk and didn't even think about it. Thanks Jimmie for pointing me to it.
Annika's bum does look better though. We are back in Pampers for now and I am online "shopping" for cloths. I told DH that is what I wanted for my belated Christmas present.
EvesMom replied: I'm so late on this, but I thought i'd comment anyway. A couple months ago, DD had a wicked horrible, almost frightening diaper rash out of nowhere. Bleeding an all. I found the culprit was of all things grapes (it's a shame too cause Eve really likes them). Once I figured out the culprit, the rash cleared up fast (with the aide of balmex and a little streaking ) I had almost switched to cloth diapers myself, but my mother told me that if I thought the diaper rash was bad at that point, cloth would be so much worse ( I figured she would know having 4 of us and all) But anyway, possibly could it have been something she was eating or drinking a lot of?? Just a thought.
Bamamom replied: So I am way way late on this but back to the wipes issue - have you changed wipes at all lately? Tripp can only use homemade wipes or he breaks out IMMEDIATELY. I mean it's weird how fast his little booty gets red. Of course he has a sensitive bottom - can only tolerate Pampers or Huggies.
Another thought - could she be allergic to one of the creams you're using?
Hope she's much better by now!!!!
chellesings replied: Hi, I know this is very late, and I am very, very new!! Have you ever tried Aquaphor ointment? Some friends of mine used it on their baby's rash, and it cleared up almost immediately.
Just an extra thought........
