Did anyone NOT use an infant carrier carseat?

amynicole21 wrote: My sister is due in January and was considering skipping the travel system and just getting a convertible carseat from the very start. I think it would have been pretty near impossible to survive the first 6 months with my girls without a carseat carrier though. Until they can sit up in a highchair at a restaraunt or sit up in the cart at the store.

Did anyone skip the carrier, and if so, how did you do it?

luvbug00 replied: I loved those carrers biut when it was inconviennt I just used a snuglie ( frount carrier.)

My3LilMonkeys replied: I couldn't imaging doing it without an infant seat, although if she & baby both really like a Snugli it would probably work.

CantWait replied: I'm with you....it was much easier using as a highchair, in restraunts, going from point a to point b, the car to the stroller etc...

I couldn't imagine not having one.

KeanusMomma replied: The only thing that comes to mind for me is safety, but I know they make convertable care seats for very small (newborn) babies. I think it would be immensely easier and make for a happier baby if I had worn around ds in a sling and left the carseat in the car all the time. Also save on $$ (no infant carrier car seat or stroller needed). So be sure you are safety-consious when making this decision (as I'm sure you will be).

MyLuvBugs replied: I hated our carrier/travel system with Lorelei. But she also grew out of it in 4 months. rolleyes.gif We sold our travel system and are just using two convertable car seats (one for each girl). For carrying Lex around I just use my sling. It's really easy and a lot more comfortable to carry her around. I can have both of my hands free and all I'm carrying is Lexi's weight and not her weight PLUS a carrier. KWIM? As for eating out...it's pretty simple with a sling. Just gotta make sure to tuck the kid in the right way. LOL smile.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I had a travel system. Loved it. Though Logan was always small and was able to use it until he was 6 months. I like the idea of snugglis or slings. I just couldn't get comfortable with them.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
I never used an infant carrier car seat with Tanner. We didn't want to have to transition if we didn't have to so the car seat we got was a convertible car seat for children starting at 5 pounds. We did the same thing with his beds...he went from crib to twin bed right away. I should also add though that my SIL let us borrow a carrier when Tanner was born. It wasn't a car seat carrier, just a plain old carrier used for just carrying the baby. It did help quite a bit. This time around we wont have that carrier so I am going out and buying an infant car seat carrier because I did like having something to carry Tanner in when he was so little. I would assume it would also be nice on colder days to just unlock the seat from the base and carry the child without taking the child out, especially if you live in a state where it's super cold sometimes, like us in Wisconsin. biggrin.gif

kimberley replied: blink.gif umm no. my kids were all little and used the infant carrier nearly a year!

3_call_me_mama replied: We weren't going to use one this time bu t when we got teh carseat (my mom got us a britax marathon) it looked SO HUGH! So we gave it to kathleen who was due for a new seat, and we will get another one when the baby is a bit bigger. My kids always outgrew those baby seats by3-4 months due to lkength, not weight, but now they make them up to 30 inches so that gives us the 3 extra inches so hoping that this one will get at least 6 months use out of teh one we got. Chjristmas Tree Shops had an eddie bauer one for $30 so we got one of those. It's not teh best seat out there but safety wise it rates with teh graco and it's one of the easiest to use (supposedly) and it's a 5 pt harness, so tha tmake sme feel better. Anyways, we don't plan to take it out of the car much, we have a moby wrap and a sling that will be the transport fo rhte baby. Also in restaurants, it was actually MORE INCONVIENIENT with kathleen ot have a carseat thing to lug than it was to use a slin gfor her and jus thave her attached to me. So we'll do that again this time.
BUT if your sister does skip it teh Britax Boulevard has a special infant insert aht comes with it that makes it more newborn friendly and its' is good to 65lbs. So she'll def get her $$ worth out of it. It runs about $240-$270 ,

luvmykids replied: There's no way I could have done it without the carriers when I had the twins wacko.gif With Macie I did use a snugli more but still thanked the heavens for the carrier.

holley79 replied: I'm with you, I would have been lost also. I would try and talk her out of skipping it for now. wacko.gif

mom2my2cuties replied: We had the carrier thing with both the kids and it was a lifesaver - but I have to admit, when it was just me - it was MUCH more convient just to carry them or use one of those shopping cart carrier things (the built in ones after wiping it down of course) because the carrier was so heavy for me.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: We used an infant carseat with Roo until he was 7 or 8 months old. It did get kind of heavy to lug around, but I was really bummed when he got too big for it. It was so nice to be able to get him all buckled in in the house and just snap the seat in the base when we got to the car - and it was wonderful when I was running errands and going in and out of stores. I get so sick of buckling and unbuckling him in and out of the carseat now when I'm running errands - and another thing that was nice with the infant seat was if he was sleeping we could bring the whole thing into the store or wherever and he'd just keep sleeping. happy.gif So we're definitely going to be using it again with Allison. thumb.gif
