Did you...

Mom2Boyz replied: Both of our boys had them. THey didn't even give us the option of not having them. I just assumed all babies got them
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Yes - it is standard at the hospital I was at.
But they only gave it to the kids after a few hours - so that family had time to get there, pictures etc... the nurses waited until everone was gone.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: That's nice! They didn't even let me hold him before they did everything! I'm still mad about that.
I didn't really know it was an option either. I guess technically they can't do something if you tell them not to but they never asked me about it they just did it.
kimberley replied: it is standard here too but you can sign a waiver refusing it. i did both for the boys because i didn't know there was an option but only got the vit K for Jade because it made no sense to me to get the drops.
mckayleesmom replied: I didn't know I had an option either,,,but I would have got it.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Wil had both, but they didn't do it for maybe an hour or longer afterward. I got to hold him and let him suckle at my breast for awhile before they did the procedure. I remember them asking me and I told them I wanted to wait.
amymom replied: Neither of mine had Vit K. But they are older so maybe it wasn't done for them. My son did not have the eye drops, he was born in a birthing center and it was not routine to administer anything, unless needed. However, about 2 weeks or so later he needed the eye ointment. My daughter had the eye ointment day of birth.
Boys r us replied: Both of my boys had both. I didn't know I had a choice either as well, I didn't have any knowledge that either was something I should question. Do you have more info?
kimberley replied: well from what i have read and been told by nurses and mw's is that the eye drops are sort of a dated thing doctors do to cover their butts. apparently it was made mandatory because soldiers were coming back from the war with gonorrhea (sp?), impregnating their wives, then having blind children because the infection spread from the unknowing mom to the baby. i am in a monogamous relationship and am positive i don't have any STDs so why put my child through that unnecessarily.
baileygirl replied: Same with me~ I thought all babies got them too. Except all my GIRLS had them!
My3LilMonkeys replied: We opted to get them for both girls because where we had Brooke they didn't ask - they just did it. With Madison they asked if we wanted them right after she was born and I had to sign a waiver if I didn't. Since I was in the middle of having a tear stitched and waiting VERY impatiently for them to give me Madison and would have had to wait for them to find the form I just said yes.
