Did your pediatrician...

Well today I called to tell Wil's ped that I was having another baby and asked if she would meet us at the hospital. And the receptionist said no, not likely. I had made sure that the group I chose went to the same hospital, but I guess it all depends who's on rounds that day. So then I said, well then at least ONE of the docs in the group will come, right? And again, she said, it all depends. So now I'm stuck to possibly having an onsite ped see the new baby, or someone from a totally different office, which is okay, but is this normal? I hate that it could be someone I've never met.
We had an onsite ped see Wil when he was born and I certainly didn't agree with a lot of what they said. So that's why I'm scared now!
redchief replied: Our ped took care of all of our kids in the hospital. He was an old school doc who actually listened to his patients and his pt's parents. It's a shame he's retired. We miss him.
luvmykids replied: I hadn't gotten around to picking one yet when I had the twins, so it was someone from the hospital. But by the time I had Macie it was the same group; they sent the PA I disliked the most but at least it was someone I was familiar with.
My3LilMonkeys replied: I had an onsite ped with Madison because the hospital I chose to have her at is nearly 45 minutes away and our ped doesn't do rounds there - they go to the closer hospital (the hospital Brooke was born at and that I wouldn't EVER go to again).
If I have another they will surely see an onsite because I love the hospital I went to this time and would likely go there again.
3_call_me_mama replied: Ours meets you at teh hospital and another dr form his practice does house calls if you have homebirth. Its teh same ped I had as a child. I'm hoping they wait to retire until my children are all grown!
jacobsmama replied: When the patients deliver at the hospital if they have a pediatrician picked out they come to the hospital to see the baby but if it is a big group then whoever is on call that day will be the one to see the baby. Then you take the baby to your regular ped.
So with Jacob 3 different peds saw him each day we were there But that was good for me because I had just picked someone and so I picked the one of the 3 I liked the best and he has been seeing him ever since!
You will be just fine at the hospital.
PrairieMom replied: Our ped met us at the hospital. She is the one that did his Cerc. I know that group rounds there tho, so I'm not sure if we just got lucky or not. The boy's next check up is a few weeks before I am due to deliver, so our Ped will be in for a little suprise!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Our ped came the day after Andrew was born, which was the plan. The on-call ped at the hospital was there when he was born because he had passed some meconium in utero.
huggybugboy replied: Our pediatricians are the onsite ped at the hospital, so it worked out.
Edward's Mommy replied: No, just the nurses. But I was on medicaid and they don't make "special" visits!
ediep replied: Jason goes to a ped thathas 6 peds in the practice. One of them came to the hospital to check him. We were lucky that it was the one that I like the best and who I usually try to see when we can
Hillbilly Housewife replied: My OB is the one who delivered all 3 of my kids - and he came back the next day to see that everything was alright.
Course he just barely caught the first baby, missed the second one by about 4 minutes (and he was in the building!!) and was there the whole time for the 3rd baby... he'd learned not to stray too far... heh heh
Any appontments afterwards were routed back to our regular ped. It's just that our regular ped retired from having pregnant woman as patients... so all the pregnancies are routed back to the doc I saw while pregnant. I suppose I could have stayed on with him afterwards... but I like my regular doctor... I've had him as my doctor since I was about 11. Now that we're moving back to Ottawa, I plan to have him as my doctor again.
Kaitlin'smom replied: since she was early we had not yet decided on a ped for her, so we just used the on call ped. It was fine they were just SLOW I was realsed hours before she was.
amynicole21 replied: When Sophia was born, our Ped was the attending ped office at the hospital so they saw her. When Nora was born, we saw a new Ped that we had never met because our Ped didn't have priveledges at that hospital.
coasterqueen replied: Ours definitely came on site for both girls. Our ped is part of a clinic but he's the only ped that we see (unless we see the nurse practitioner) so he would be the only one to come. I do not think I'd like anyone other than my ped coming.
Edit to add that we had three hospitals in town at the time (now only 2) and our ped would have gone to any of them.
CosmetologyMommy replied: I had an onsite ped and he gave me his card so he could be Aidan's ped and he was really nice and everything. I call the office and they didn't even take our insurance!
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: This is what I thought...but yesterday, when I called, the receptionist said that it's even possible that NO ONE from the group will be scheduled for rounds. So I could end up with anyone. She just kept saying "it all depends". I'm a bit angry, because I swear that this was one of my questions before picking out a ped, OB and hospital. I made sure they all went to the same place. Oh well, maybe I'll just get lucky!
I'm really only worried about it because Wil was severely jaundiced and we had to be in the hospital for 7 days. So I want to prepare myself if it happens again with this baby, which I imagine it will, because it was due to different blood types. The peds we had for Wil all had conflicting advice, which was very frustrating. And when I finally went to our first appt at the ped I picked (out of the hospital), he was like "they said what in the hospital??"
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: We jsut had the ped who was at the hospital check out both kids, and will do the same this time. I didn't really care who was there as long as someone said they could come home with me I'm happy
MyLuvBugs replied: I think it's pretty normal. We had like 3 different Ped's see Lorelei while we were there. So long as they've been to medical school, and are actually Dr.'s I think it's fine.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: With Maddie, they asked me if I had chosen a ped and I when I told them who I had chosen, they called her and she came up to evaluate Maddie.
When I had Ethan we were in a different city, different hospital than before, but the same thing...they asked me who I had chosen, I told them and they called the ped office. The doctor on call came to see Ethan (there are only 2 docs in this practice and they are both great)
So obviously I thought this was how it worked. I didn't know just anyone could see your child. I guess it makes sense though. You will see a separate bill from that doctor, too. Maybe it all depends on the hospital?
5littleladies replied: When Alyssa was born they were concerned about meconium aspiration so they called our ped, but she couldn't make it up right away so they brought in the on-call ped. That was fine with me-so long as someone was seeing her. Our ped did come up the next day to see how Lissa was doing and to discharge her though.
luvbug00 replied: we didn't even talk to ours until after mya was born. we used the hospital stand by .
BAC'sMom replied: With all three kiddos they asked me if I had chosen a ped, then called him to the hospital.
holley79 replied: We had an on site Ped also. She was very nice and gave me a lot of information. My ped is in Escambia county and I had Annika in Santa Rosa so I knew the new ped would come to that hospital. I didn't know any better.
Mom2BNTN replied: I had to fill out a card with the name of my OB and the name of the Pediatrician we were using so the hospital would know who to call.
