Division of the schools... - OMG!
MyLuvBugs wrote: The state just passed a division of the Omaha public schools which will SEGREGATE kids by race for the most part. Most of the high school kids today has protests against it, and I'm totally with the kids on this one. Segregation was banned a long time ago, and with good cause!! IT"S NOT RIGHT!! What is wrong with these legislators? How is having three different school districts (african american, latino, and white) good for our kids? They are saying that "it's not segregation, it's just how we divided the district"....OK. it's a HUGE city, and it's quite a coincidence that the "division line" creates a race divided distict! It's just so stupid!
BAC'sMom replied: That's crazy! It's 2006 for goodness sake.WTH
MyLuvBugs replied: That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the news tonight! What on earth were they thinking!!?!??!?!?
A&A'smommy replied: UM that is completly ridiculous we don't need to go through anymore of that racist crap.. what are they trying to instill into our children!!!!!!
Brias3 replied: Wow, I thought we had heard the last of racial separation decades ago
ashtonsmama replied: I can't believe people have the guts to keep that going... What's the point of all that?!? We need a generation that doesn't divide races, and that's what I thought we were going for, but apparently some people just don't have enough self-confidence to let that all go. How sad. That makes me more sad than angry, but a little of both. How ridiculous.
holley79 replied: I would be also. I think that is such a crock. That went out before my time, why bring it back?
MamaJAM replied: Wow...that really amazes me. How can they possibly get away with something like that?
kayla's mama replied: Our city is trying to do something like that too. It just doesn't make sense. What are we trying to instill in our children....That just makes me so mad and angry
gr33n3y3z replied: that is so wrong
my2monkeyboys replied: You said though that they divided it up by lines through they city, not actually by race, right? So, to give the benefit of the doubt, it isn't the school district office's fault if the races are segregated through the city. Just to give a different perspective....
luvmykids replied: Surely they have studies or something to back up how they re-districted, other wise they are going to be facing a lot of legal repurcussions!
If not, I can't stomach the thought of segregation making a come back.
MamaJAM replied: I was thinking about this while off-line. The public school my girls attended actually had to stop dividing the grades into classes by GPA because of legal issues.....I can't imagine them being able to legally segregate.
