Do each of your kids have their own Nintendo ds?

MommytoKKC wrote: My daughters both want one and I am debating between getting them their own or getting one and they can share. Do your kids each have their own? Besides them fighting over using it, is there any reason it would be hard to share it? I'm just debating between $169 and almost $400.

mom21kid2dogs replied: Olivia has her own and a spare. tongue.gif (Not the answer you wanted, right) It only happened that way because one of hers was broken on a choir trip by another child and O used her own money to buy a new one. That being said, it's come in handy to have 2. Most games allow you to use a competitive game feature. It is loaded on one DS but several kids can play it together. If you had two, they could share the games.
BTW, there are lots of things on the DSi that are just candy~not really necessary for game playing, like a camera. If it were me, I'd buy 2 DS lite systems. Several places are selling them for $98 this Friday. For $200 you could get two and have $$ left for a game or two!

bluebear replied: a little kid DOES NOT need a Nintendo DSi. What are they going to use the Mobile Internet for? You can export pictures to Facebook, but still, why would a child need to do that?

Walmart has DS Lites for $98 this weekend. Toys R Us is having bundle sales (with games) for about $130.

luvmykids replied: My twins each have their own DSlite. I wouldn't buy them the DSi, personally, like the previous posters said, there is just a lot on there (that you pay for) that they don't need yet.

Another fun thing my kids LOVE about having their own is they can chat with each other....write words or draw pics and send it to each other across the backseat of the car laugh.gif

CantWait replied:
This, even the 14 year old and 6 year old do this.

MommyToAshley replied:
I agree on having two would make it so that they can play games together, just be sure to read the back of the game. Some require two copies of the game and some games don't.

As for the camera, I read in one of the game developer mags (Rod gets them, not me smile.gif) that the game developers are going to start making games that will take advantage of the camera. I am not sure what games will require it, but just something to think about for the future. Also, we were debating whether to upgrade Ashley's DSlite to a DSi or buy her a digital camera, and this does both so I think we are going witht he DSi.

ZandersMama replied: we have 2, very necessary for the way they play. and really its worth the extra 98$ to not have to listen to them scream for turns.

bluebear replied:
I'm glad you found an alternative for the iPod Touch!

Games that use the camera so far are WarioWare (downloadable) and you have to play the game in a well lit environment; the camera does not register well if you're not behind a white wall.
an SD card is a good idea for the pictures will be saved to the system, which is a pain to transfer over, and you can put music on it. (only takes certain format...but easy fix with right clicking in iTunes and selecting convert to AAC format)
if you want to know anything else feel free to ask me!

kimberley replied: jade and james have their own DS. i hesitated at first to have 2 in the house but i am glad i did. they play against each other all the time so they share games instead of fight over them. thumb.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
Thanks for the info. I didn't realize there was already a game available that takes advantage of the camera, I just read that there is going to be a bunch of new games that do.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Brooke got one for her birthday, but we make her share with Madison. There is occasionally fighting over it but as soon as I hear arguing I make them put it away so it's settled down a lot. I'm a mean mommy. tongue.gif

Madison will not be getting her own anytime soon because I feel 4 is way too young. But then, I thought Brooke was too young to need one at 6 and got outvoted so you never know.

ETA: I bought Brooke's on Craigslist for $60 in near perfect condition and got a few games for $5-$10 each with it. Maybe check there if you want to try and get 2 cheaply.

coasterqueen replied: We were trying to decide the same thing. Kylie got her DSlite last Christmas and now Megan wants one. DH thought they could share, but I don't see it being possible. rolleyes.gif That and if they both had one for car ride trips, etc, that would be better. So Megan will get her own DSlite this Christmas. BUT I'm buying games for Megan that Kylie does not have, so they can SHARE their games - they'll have to. tongue.gif

bluebear replied: Some games can only be played in one DS- if you switch systems then the wifi data will be changed every time you put it in a new DS.

momofone replied: i bought a used DS for 69 it works great from game stop

luvbug00 replied: both the kids Tyler (mya's stepbrother) and mya are getting one. But then again all three of us parents are putting in to afford them.
