Do you Buckle up - seat belt poll
mckayleesmom wrote: I was watching that ad and some others that Ed put up in the teenager thread...Very graphic. I also watched some about seatbelts and it got me wondering.
I always wear my seatbelt...snapping it on is so routine its like blinking.
mckayleesmom replied: I guess sometimes and hardly ever are pretty much the same.
cameragirl21 replied: Absolutely. I was once rear ended when I was stopped at a red light by someone driving 55mph...drunk as a skunk at 4pm, he was a teenager...his passenger wasn't wearing a seatbelt and spider webbed the windshield and was barely conscious. Had I not been wearing a seatbelt I'd most certainly have broken the windshield with my face. I think I'll pass on that experience. Now air bags on the other hand...I wish I could dismantle mine, hate those things.
My2Beauties replied: I had an airbag actually save me from hitting a steering wheel really hard one time, so I'd like to think they could save lives. But yes, absolutely, I never get in a car without buckling up first!
lisar replied: I put hardley ever. I know its bad but most of the time I just forget. Lexi will tell me to put it on and I will.
Calimama replied: I put it on every time. I do it without even thinking about it.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Click It or Ticket here.....
Kaitlin'smom replied: its a habit for Kaitlin and I, now DH on the other hand......Kaitlin will remind him. For me it just feels to weird with out it
AlexsPajamaMama replied: always!! It is the law in Maine. And I would not want something to happen to me in a car crash and leave my babies without a momma, so I would buckle up everytime even if it wasnt the law.
HuskerMom replied: I put sometimes because I do when I'm on the highway or interstate but not usually in town. I really need to get in the habit of wearing it in town too though.
Nina J replied: Always, why wouldn't you? It should be the first thing you do when you get in your car.
I went to a teenage boys funeral last year. He and a friend were driving and one was wearing a seatbelt, the other wasn't. They crashed and the boy wearing the seatbelt got minor injuries, he was in hospital over night. The other boy went straight through the windshield and had his skull crushed in. Even though I always wear a seatbelt, the sight of that poor boys mother at his funeral was devasting. As we are a small town, it was a local man who came across them. He was devestated too, he said the boy who died was completly unrecognisable, it was like his face had just been smashed to pieces. Imagine dying like that, your family can't even see your face one more time because it would just be destroyed. He was only 15.
I know some people who don't, but always make sure their kids buckle up. I find that ridiculous. You want your kids to be safe, but you should belt up too. Why should your child have to lose you in a car wreck when you could've prevented it by taking 3 seconds to put a seat belt on?
stella6979 replied: Always, always, always!! I've had 2 friends die in car accidents (one when I was 12 and another when I was 15) and it most likely could have been prevented had they been wearing their seatbelts.
redchief replied: I always wear my seat belt and so does the rest of the family.
I actually signed an oath to wear one at all times. I can't very well ask my firefighters to make such a commitment if I'm not willing.
BabyOwen427 replied: I chose always. I have to say though it's not 100%, more like 99%. There have been those moments when I get to the grocery store and go to undo my belt only to realize I never did it in the first place.
That bother's me too, about the adult not being buckled but the kids are. So in a rollover the adult is being thrown all over the car, with a weight and force that could snap a neck of another person who's properly buckled in. It's not fair to jepordize the lives of your passengers just because you didn't feel like buckling.
My sophmore year of high school we lost 9 students from stupid actions with cars. One boy was high and drunk and playing 'chicken' with cars. He apparently won Another was prom night. A convertable car full of seniors pulled out of the parking lot at night and right infront of a black car without it's headlights on.
Stupid little mistakes cost too many too much.
MoonMama replied: Always, always! I don't ever even think about it, I just do it.
