Do you carry

Boys r us wrote: anything for personal protection? I just reloaded this weekend on Pepper Spray and it got me wondering whether most women have something like this they carry. Mine hooks right on my keychain and I have one I carry with me when I go running. It makes me feel SO much more safe!!!

bluebear replied: I don't carry anything with me. If I ever got attacked (God forbid) I would fight back. There were several times in high school I was attacked by underclassmen guys rolleyes.gif for no reason and I fought them off. I guess I'm just an easy target because I'm so small.
Going to school in a dangerous city made me have my car key visible in my hand at all times while walking to the dark parking garage.

My2Beauties replied: I don't carry anything but I should. I'm usually not out alone at night or anything and during the day I usually go to heavily populated places, my job has armed security guards because I work in a bad area of town and then there's the grocery store and stuff but I never go out at night by myself. I still should carry something, people can be attacked in broad daylight sleep.gif

stella6979 replied: I carry pepper spray and I also carry a small folding knife. I'm extremely paranoid. blush.gif

My2Beauties replied: You're both so darned cute you don't look like you'd carry anything...guess that's what fools predators huh? LOL!

coasterqueen replied: Pepper spray and my cell phone. tongue.gif Especially when I go walking/running, but also for work as I work downtown by bars and lots of people who sleep downtown wherever. I get approached at least once a week for money and usually by angry men that scare the crap out of me, so I have to have something. blush.gif If I walk out at night by myself in the dark (if at work late or something) I always call Ryan and talk to him while walking to my car. That way if something happens he can hear it or know I'm in trouble.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I used to carry pepper spray, especially when I had to walk a mile to work in the dark every night... that made me nervous even though it was in town along a busy road. tongue.gif I still have it, but I'm sure it's all dried up by now. I've been thinking about getting a new one. When I leave work at night now and walk to my car behind the restaurant I'm always very nervous... the parking lot is lit but it's still scary. I always call Dh as I'm leaving the building, so I'm talking to him when I get to my van. And I keep my finger on the panic button. tongue.gif

youngmomofone replied: I carry a small pocket knife at all times. Even to take out the garbage. Dh gave it to me for this exact use, and he feels better knowing that I have a chance to get away from a situation.

mom21kid2dogs replied: We carry pepper spray when we walk the dog but only to protect ourselves from other dogs. Unfortunately (or fortunately) those are the only run ins we've ever had!

jem0622 replied: No, I do not.

Swood75 replied: I have pepper spray on my keychain..DH will be carrying his gun with him as soon as his CWP (concealed weapons permit) gets here anyday now..And if someone (God forbid) were to try to break in to our house, well,it would be the last place they ever tried to break in.. wink.gif

luvbug00 replied: GEEZE U GALS ARE PACKIN' ..LOL! I live near DC and crime here is nothing compared to what you see on tv. Way overdramatized. so nope. Dont carry anything. except some serious chompers and a swift right kick..lol. oh and i know how to flip someone thatks to self defence class when i was ohh 10.

DVFlyer replied: I'm not a female, but I never go out unprepared.

This is how I get prepared to go get the mail:

coasterqueen replied: laugh.gif DVFlyer. rolling_smile.gif That's hilarious! Thanks for the laugh.

I only carry something because I was followed for months a LONG time ago by some crazy man and it scared me to death. He knew where I got on the bus at (near my apartment), where I got off at, how many blocks I walked to work, where I worked, where I went for lunch, etc. He finally approached me and I was freaked out for a long time. There has also been muggings down where I work, especially during session. Lots of rich people walking down here late at night coming and going from the bars, walking the dark alleys, etc and they are prime targets to be mugged. I don't want to be mistaken for one of those people. tongue.gif laugh.gif blush.gif I've also had some angry people encounter me asking for money and start cussing, waving their fingers in my face, etc, when I don't give them any. I've even given my breakfast to them before just so they will go away. I don't carry cash, which is what I tell them and I'm afraid one day they'll grab my purse or something. KWIM? blush.gif

lesliesmom replied: Not yet. DH and I have been talking about it though. I work in Downtown Detroit and go through some not-so-decent areas from time to time. He wants me to get a CCW, especially in light of some of the things happening within the City. I'm thinking about it but we are going to go out and get some heavy-duty pepper spray until I can take the class and get my permit (going to take 6-9 months total).

PrairieMom replied: I don't. But, I rarely go out with out my kids, and they are so naughty, that they are all I need to deter any bad guy. rolling_smile.gif

MoonMama replied:
Ditto! And I usually never go out alone at night. If I need something or have to go somewhere the boyfriend is usually with me, and he can kick some MAJOR butt!! wink.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied: I do not. I live in a small town that is pretty safe - crime is pretty rare here. I very rarely go anywhere alone at night and I'm always watchful and careful when I do. I know basic self defense but that's it.

Calimama replied:
You do!? I didn't know that. I just moved to DC!

Anyway I agree, DC on tv and DC in real life are very very different. I think there are parts of MD that are WAY worse. Anyway no, I don't. But now that I've been driving hubby to work at weird hours I think I might get some pepper spray.

CantWait replied: Nope!

Mama~Love replied: Nope, don't carry anything. We live very rurally, so not much danger around here, except deer on the road.
