Do you eat off of the spoon?
C&K*s Mommie wrote: Eating or licking the spoon when making brownies, that is. Do you still do that? If you do, do you allow your children to as well?
Salmonella is a scare, and may keep people from doing so nowadays, but I was curious if anyone still did it, despite the salmonella concerns.
J-rod replied: i clean the bowl and any utensil she used to make the batter
Our Lil' Family replied: Most certainly, that's the best part! I let Thomas have a bite or two.
MyLuvBugs replied: Sometimes....depends on how much of a hurry I'm in, and if DH is around b/c he'll steal the spoon when I'm not looking. lol I also LOVE raw cookie dough.......mmmmmmm.....Now I have to go to the store and get some! Thanks Nicole! lol
J-rod replied: raw cookie dough is the best EVER!
AlexsPajamaMama replied: Yup I still do it too!!! Alex hasnt had a taste of it yet though. I dont want it to be a habit that when mommy makes something yummy he has to lick the spoon....not yet anyway.
C&K*s Mommie replied: YW!! Never had raw cookie dough, except in ice cream. I heard that people will eat it straight from the fridge... hmmmm... that may be my next craving that I will give into. Now you have me wondering about this Erika.
lisar replied: Oh Yea we lick the spoon and and a lil out of the bowl. Thats all part of making them.
~~*Missi*~~ replied: I do it but I usually don't use eggs I use applesauce instead.. (sounds wierd but taste great in cakes brownies and cupcakes)...
I love to watch Sabrina try to like the beaters LOL its funny ....
Heather77 replied: Yep, I do it too... well except for right now b/c I'm pregnant.
JP&KJMOM replied: Ever so guilty here! oh and chocolate chip cookie dough is the best.
CantWait replied: I no longer do it with cake mix just because I don't get the same satisfaction with it that I did when I was a kid, but samonella isn't a concern therefore I let the kids.
Although the raw cookie dough, yum, that I still will eat right out of the package or from the bowl.
luvbug00 replied: We do salmonilla.. phooey! I've been doing it for years.

ashtonsmama replied: OF COURSE. Cookie dough, brownie batter...ALL of it. YUM.
MyLuvBugs replied: Just like J-Rod said....it's the best ever! lol
Mom2Boyz replied: We're guilty too
How could you pass up brownie batter or cookie dough???
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I do! I love cookie dough and brownie mix! It's bad to do it while PG, because of the raw eggs, but I still do ....just made cookies yesterday as a matter of fact!
ilovemybaby replied: Oh most certainly! I rarely ever bake though. But I love batter. I also love icing!
There is a way to make sure eggs are fresh. You put them into water and if they float they're fresh (I think) and if they sink they're not! It could be the other way around ... I always have trouble remembering. I always put our eggs in the fridge though and don't use them after their best before/expiry date.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Great tip! Thanks.
Also, I heard that if in water they turn so the 'semi-pointed' end is straight up (with the rounded bigger end at the bottom) then they are bad, and should not be used. I also learned off of Good Eats on The Food Network (not to get off subject here) that putting eggs near the back of the fridge is best. Using the egg containers in the door, or placing them nearest the front of the fridge is bad because that area takes the longest to cool down since it is exposed to the room temp air more often than the back of the fridge.
ilovemybaby replied: Oh that makes sense (about the way they turn) thanks! We put our eggs in the main part of the fridge just wherever I can fit them Usually along one side. But not in the door.
Jamison'smama replied: I have substituted applesauce for oil in brownies and cakes but not for eggs....how do the cakes and brownies rise? I thought applesauce was just a sub for fats.
My3LilMonkeys replied: Always have, always will! I let the kids do it too, but only a bite.
I'm also guilty of eating bits of raw hamburger - I love the stuff!
holley79 replied: Spoon, beaters and bowl. I figure we have survived all these years doing it, why stop now.
holley79 replied: You don't know what you are missing out on Nicole. My mom would make a big thing of cookie dough and just cook a few at a time. We use to sneak in the fridge when mom had cookie dough in there. She would go to make a batch of cookies and the dough would be gone. I think she was picking at it also. LOL
