Do you ever pray for superfluous things?

I have always been one of those "save your prayers for when we're really gonna need them" type of girl but I'm curious how others see this.
Do you feel selfish or wrong praying for something that is not about health or life vs death or something really crucial where perhaps you could use some Divine intervention? Do you ever feel like you just want something really badly and you have the urge to pray for it even though you know you can very well live without it?

PrairieMom replied: I don't. I don't presume to judge others on what or how they pray, but for me personally, I don't pray for material things, and I try to persuade my children not to either.

My2Beauties replied: I don't really pray per se. Everyone knows my religious beliefs here, in that I really don't know what I believe, I believe in a higher power but who that is I don't know. Anywhoo - needless to say, at one point in my life or another I've "wished" for things like I wish I would win the lottery or I wish this zit would go away..but I've never seriously prayed for them if that makes sense.

Danalana replied: I have prayed for things I really wanted...my Bible says He will fulfill the desires of my heart if my eyes are fixed on Him. I believe God WANTS to bless us with the things we truly want, just as an earthly father wants to do the same for his children

Jamison'smama replied: I never really thought about it. We are avid prayers here and primarily we focus our prayers on what we have to be grateful for.

I never really pray for material things although maybe in a round-about way I am...like if I were to be purchasing a new car for example I would say something like, "God, we are preparing to buy a car, please help us to be wise in our decisions" etc. I may also say something like...."God I am trying to exercise more, help me to find the tools I need to keep me motivated....." if that's an IPod, maybe I am praying for superficial things

luvmykids replied: I've prayed for things that weren't urgent or an absolute bare necessity, yes. And no, I don't feel selfish or wrong for doing so. I am with Dana, I believe God enjoys blessing us when we have a realtionship with Him.

msoulz replied: Nope, my prayers are those of thanks and for strength and/or guidance. I'll have to figure out how to get that Mustang covertible all on my own!

TrulyBlessed replied: I pray for everything from God's favor and annointing when I go grocery shopping to His grace and mercy when I take a test in school. My beliefs are that God wants us to seek him in all things and He wants to be apart of everything in our lives. I am nothing apart of Him, so I seek Him constantly. Prayer is not just asking, but it is talking with God. I want a relationship with Him, so I talk to Him quite a bit, if I am not asking, then I am thanking Him for His blessings.

I don't have a list of things I just routinely ask for. An example of a material thing right now is a new house. We need more room! So we are praying for favor and for provision for this house. That's what I was talking about....not sitting around asking for a million dollars, etc...

kimberley replied: like Brenda, i pray for strength to do things or get through things... ie financial issues. but i am not directly praying for a pot of gold to appear in my back yard lol.
