Do you have a favorite flower to plant??
jen wrote: I am trying to work on my flower beds at home I am not JENNY GREENTHUMBS, more like THE KILLER OF ALL GREEN THINGS! seriously I bought some tullips because I thought they were sooooooooooooo beautiful well now they are bald, no petals, just something out of a dr. suess book. I have Camelias planted which are doing GREAT! I have a small rose bush planted as well that hasn't done anything yet!
I just need some ideas on what pretty flowers I can plant that can withstand full/partial sun and a lot of wind (we live by the lake). I thought about more evergreens like dwarf gardenias, azaleas or something like that but I don't know much about them??? Any suggestions??
I live in Texas and it has been in the 80s lately but it is fixing to get scorching hot by May/June until October or so!
TIA
coasterqueen replied: I used to work in greenhouses so I *used* to have a pretty good green thumb, but lately I kill everything. I just don't have the time anymore. Plus DH mows down everything that looks like a weed, including my tulips, so I yanked everything out of the ground last year.
jen replied: HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! my dh would love to MOW my death camp! I really need to plant something that looks pretty that is "hardy"! ha ha!
kit_kats_mom replied: I kill every plant I touch but I threw some Gerbera daisies in my flower boxes last year and they did great. Plus, the flowers last forever and look great in a vase.
juliajaj replied: I'm a novice gardener too. Each year I do a little experimenting & learn something new. Last year's successes were my 2 roses (Peace & Mr. Lincoln), purple wave petunias planted in the front of the house (spread out, great for ground cover, little deadheading required, tolerate the sun), a whiskey barrel that had red & white red & white begonias, blue lobelia & a spike in the center (very patriotic), & then I had pink & white double impatiens planted in the back of the house (they're a little more expensive than standard impatiens, but the fill out well & don't require much sun, and minimal deadheading). I plan on repeating those same things this year. I haven't decided what to do this year with the rest of the yard/flowerbeds. I do most of my planting in May, so I need to start planning.
Boys r us replied: My favorite plant/flower/bush that I have planted are my beleeding heart bushes! They are BEAUTIFUL!!

jen replied: Wow that sounds beautiful!!! what is deadheading??? I know nothing! Sorry! I am going to look into the purple wave petunias! Thanks!!!
kimberley replied: i love daisies what can i say, i was a flower child. i am going to try my hand at gardening this spring. wish me luck lol.
juliajaj replied: Deadheading is trimming/removing the old blooms. This helps promote regrowth/blooming again. Some annuals are referred to as self-cleaning, so they don't require deadheading. The blooms fall off on their own & regrowth/blooming starts again.
I bought my wave petunias (I've seen them in white, purple & pink) at the local grocery store. Here's a web site that has information about them:
Wave Petunias
jen replied: Wow thanks! I looked at them on another site and they are beautiful! I need the ground cover! I really like them and it says they are durable in direct sun!!!!
Do you know if my tullips will bloom again if I deadhead them?? I think they have gone to their final resting place but I am going to try and revive them!!! LOL!
Thanks for the link!
megsmommie replied: I LOVE daisies. Any kind of daisies. African, shasta, any. They are all very pretty and lots of colors like white, pinks, blue, yellows, oranges and a reddish.
Lily replied: From one Texan to another (and one who kills things as well!!!) I would suggest planting bluebonnets, black eyed susans, ect... Wildflowers planted purposefully in a garden look beautiful and native Texas wildflowers will grow without much work. Good luck!
Elle replied: I have tulips, lilies and camelias in my front yard... But Nathan is who takes care of them... I suck at gardening.
3xsthefun replied: I love planting a flower garden...I can't wait to start. My favorite is probably Pansies. I have a bush of some kind I planted last year can't remember the name of it. And I have a mum that will also comming back. I'm not sure what else I'll be planting this year.
I want to to find a blue rose bush. But haven't been able to get one yet, I've been trying for about 2 or 3 years now. And they are always sold before I get a chance to get one.
