Do you have themes to your Christmas trees? - spin off of Kelly's thread

C&K*s Mommie wrote: This is quite early to think about, but since the day after Halloween stores begin to put everyone in the 'holiday' mood, I wanted to ask.

Do you have themes each yr, or every few years to the Holiday/Christmas trees in your home?

We have not had a theme in a few years, because we have not had a tree in a few years- but this year I was thinking of doing an orange and crystals/silver themed tree.

Orange because Christian's birthday is in November and the birthstone for Nov is Citrine.

Crystals/silver because we cannot afford to decorate with diamonds! laugh.gif And Kellie's birthstone for April is diamonds.

Yellow Topaz is another idea for Nov, and Sapphire is another for April.

In the past we have had Blue and Silver, Garnet & Gold Seminoles themes.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Our theme is basically hand-me-downs... laugh.gif Most of our ornaments are hand-me-downs from our parents.

MoonMama replied: Silver, white and pink but DH hates it. laugh.gif

coasterqueen replied: No theme. Can't afford to change things every year and I'm big on tradition of putting up the same ornaments, etc. The only thing that will change about our tree after the girls are older is the lights. Right now we have colored lights for the girls, but we'll go back to white lights once they are older. I wanted them to experience a tree with colored lights like I did as a kid.

Our tree ornaments are mostly ornaments Kylie has made or gotten over the past four years. The rest are ones Ryan and I already had. I'd say the majority of our ornaments are ones that are "tradition" for us. 14 years ago when Dh and I first started dating and every year since then we've bought an ornament and had it engraved with our names and the year. Since Kylie was born it's been a family ornament. So we have 14 ornaments just like that on our tree. happy.gif

luvmykids replied: My ornaments stay about the same because they mean so much, my mom bought me an ornament every year as a kid and then gave them to me when I had my first Christmas away from home, so I would have familiar ornaments to remind me of home. I still use those, plus hand me downs from my grandparents, and they just mean too much to use anything else.

I usually do a separate small tree for the dining room though, and that one I do change up as the whim strikes me.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: My tree is mostly snowmen and santas. But I do have several ornaments from my childhood that I have to have or it doesn't seem like Christmas.

mom2my2cuties replied: It depends on money and my mood really.

I like doing our trees in purple white & gold...But now that Andy is getting older - I have a feeling I will go to more traditional tree with colored lights and family ornaments instead of my fancy schmancy ones smile.gif

CantWait replied: We don't really have a theme, but I try and stick to either gold/red, or blue/silver with a few special ornaments of the kids etc.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: OUr big tree is ordnaments that we have collected or recieved since we got married-I have bought Bill and Tay an Ordnament every year and a family one as well... It also has snowflakes (the only snow we see around here laugh.gif ) and pointsettas and bows. We have a small tree,Taylor's tree wub.gif ,that the theme changes on each year depending on what she likes or wants wub.gif This year she is bouncing back and forth between a cowboy and cow tree (from pics of when I was pregnant) and a ballet tree smile.gif

Nina J replied: I use the same ornaments nearly every year, although I'll get new baubles every few years. I have to get new ones this year, and new lights.
I get new tinsel every year, last year I got purple and green..this year I think I might go dark red and gold.

I love Christmas, I can't wait biggrin.gif

Crystalina replied: Well, the Christmas of 2001 our tree was very American. I have a habit of shoving things into my tree. So that year I covered it in American flags and grapevines. It was so beautiful that I shove an American flag in every year now. It's not a big one but just enough to get the point across. I also wrap the tree in grapvine every year and sometimes even put dried hydrangeas in it. Like I said, I love to shove things in the tree. rolling_smile.gif We always put in the same ornaments although every year we each pick out a new one. We usually go for the wooden ones that do something. Like homemade ornaments (although we aren't the ones who make them.) We like the country and very old fashioned feel like a wooden rooster that has a pull string and his wings flap. That kind of thing. It's all about country at Christmastime for us. We even bundle up wood and place it around the house (tied with fabrics). This was something I did before I actually had to heat the house with wood. It was enjoyable at one point and now it's just work. rolling_smile.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: No theme. I have collected ornaments since I was a little girl. My family is big on passing down and buying ornaments for each other so I have dozens upon dozens of ornaments from the time I was a baby until now. We do the same thing for Tanner so when he is older he will have his ornaments to take with him when he moves out.

PrairieMom replied: This is our tree from 2003. It is baby blue with white snow flakes

Black balls, crystals, and white. The black was disapointing, becuase you could barely see it, but the lights through the crystal were really pretty.

We have also done purple and gold, and white and royal blue. red and white candy canes, Oh, and snowmen and snow flakes. I think we have done a different theme for our trees every year we have been married, I just don't remember them all. These are the only pics I have handy.

Every year we buy a hallmark ornament for ourselves, so this year will be our first year only using our Hallmark ornaments. Some are nearly 10 years old and have never been on a tree! We just now have enough to decorate a whole tree. laugh.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: no theme I dont have the kinda of money to spend on it every year. Plus for me christmas woudl nto be christmas without old orniments, hand made ones, one for every year DH and I have been married, Kaits yearly orniments. I love having a varitey of orniments. Now on my little trees that sit on the fireplace I usually only have the lights and a few little bulbs. Kait's pink tree was barbie last year and this year (shhhs dont tell her) it will be disney princesses, I found the little princess on snowflakes, they are sooo cute, she will adore them.

holley79 replied: Every year we just use the ornaments we have collected over the years. I guess you can say we have a "family" theme. Also tradition is to get everyone a new ornament each year.
