Do you let your kids - go barefoot in public?
Danalana wrote: I've been seeing a lot of kids at Wal-Mart, lately, who are barefoot. I don't think I could allow that. I mean, there could be glass, and God only knows what else on the floor. I don't know, maybe I'm over-reacting. That's why I'm asking the people who have actual children, instead of just ideas.
Mom2Boyz replied: Conner always wears shoes when we go somewhere, but sometimes if we have to make a quick trip to the store for something I won't put shoes on Caden. I'll just carry him.
grapfruit replied: My first thought was "Oh H-e-double hockey sticks no!"
The more I thought about it the more I'm sticking w/my first statement. JMHO, hope I don't offend anybody. But it's kind of (God I hope I don't offend anybody), white trashish.
Now if they're little and in the cart that's one thing. I mean my 19 month old niece likes to take off her shoes. But I know she wouldn't let her walk around like that.
ETA: sorry she's 13 months, I made a typo
moped replied: Noooooooooo

Danalana replied: OH! I know Jessica's answer!
Mommy2BAK replied: NO WAY!!!
lovemy2 replied: No way - except Dylan - but obviously his feet don't even come close to touching the floor yet - and his feet are too fat for shoes at the moment...
Kids walking around barefoot in the store is kinda like those people you see in the stores in the pjs and slippers
cameragirl21 replied: just fyi, you can get plantar warts that way and they're very hard to treat. i can't imagine letting a little kid (or myself) walk around barefoot in a store or any public place.
momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: I thought I had left Alyx's shoes at the office on Friday so all weekend long she was barefoot. However, she never once walked through a store barefoot. She was in her stroller or in a shopping cart at the stores. The only place I let her walk around was my cousins graduation party and then at my friends house. No offense, but floors at a store are nasty! Someone may have just come from their farm walking through pig poop and then into walmart. No sorry gross.
CantWait replied: NO WAY!!!!!!!!!
And I thought most stores, especially Walmart had "NO SHIRT NO SHOES ETC" policy.
Danalana replied: I don't know if we havet hat policy, but we should. Maybe I will write my own little policy and post it
kit_kats_mom replied: ewww! not walking around. GROSS! Germs, Tetnus, dirt...need I go on??? I keep socks in my purse for the times that they have to take off their shoes at playgrounds and such. I practically bathe them in purell if we are somewhere and their bare feet must be touching the ground...like at the waterpark at Sea World...I really need to go buy some water shoes for them. Shudders
hoosier momma replied: My son has just starting walking over the past month. I would never let him walk in a store or anywhere in public barefoot. There were times in the past when he was smaller we would go places barefoot or just socks and he would be in the stroller, cart or being carried.
PrairieMom replied: I'm with you on that one. My children always wear shoes in public.
Twelve Volt Man replied: There is no way I will ever allow my son to walk barefoot in a store. Not only is it unsafe, it's nasty and tacky-looking. Few things turn my stomach like a filthy underside of someone's foot -- adult or child. If my son tries to come into the house with nasty feet like that, I'll amputate them at the door before I let him in.
Boo&BugsMom replied: NO WAY!!! NASTY! I've had planters warts before as a child and they are terrible!!! I even have water shoes for him for at the public pool.
ETA: I have a weird thing about feet. I hate feet, they are nasty to begin with. If hubby or Tanner are outside and are barefoot, I make them wash their feet off when they come inside. Blecky!!! I'm the foot inspector!
Crystalina replied: A baby yes, a child that walks no. That is just gross. Not to mention how would you feel walking on that concrete with no shoes? My kids do not do anything I would not do myself and I surely wouldn't walk in public with no shoes.
HuskerMom replied: When Keith starts walking he will definetly wear shoes in public places. Now he usually doesn't cuz when we're at walmart or places like that he's in the cart so his feet don't touch the floor. I saw a show one time where the woman didn't wear shoes anywhere. She would go to the store or even to clubs and take her shoes off. They tested what was on the bottom of her feet and it was so gross.
redchief replied: I spent a good deal of my childhood barefoot. My children don't walk around barefoot very often, but I still like to take my shoes off, even though I know better.
It's true that is a major cause of plantar warts. I had them as a teen. Removal was painful and not something I'd like to repeat.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Same here....I really hate feet..especially dirty feet
No, my kids do not walk around barefoot in a store. I don't either. Even in the fitting room I will stand on my shoes at all times (if I'm not wearing socks)...I can't stand for my feet to touch the floor. And at the pool...we all wear our flip flops (unless we are in the water and the kids have water shoes for that).
Calimama replied: No. I find it gross. We are a big beach family and wear a lot of flip flops but that's the closet we get to being barefoot in public.
MoonMama replied: Ewwwwww GROSS!!! I could NEVER let Braedin do that.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Walking outside briefly, I alllow the girls to walk on the sidewalk from our house to the car barefoot. But to play outside in our yard they need shoes. Anywhere else they need something on their feet. Unless we are at the beach, and to play in the water/on the sand I allow them to not wear shoes. But to walk into beachfront stores, or on the boardwalk back to the car they must have shoes on. For me, no overall they must have shoes on, or else they will have to be carried.
My3LilMonkeys replied: I am a very barefoot person - I hate to wear shoes. But even I won't walk into a store barefoot!
We go barefoot in the house, in the yard, even to walk across the street to my MILs house. But to go to the store, shoes are a must.
MyBabeMaddie replied: No way, anyways its against the law here to go out in public places with out shoes or a shirt -
Maddy'sMommy replied: My dd knows that if she wants to walk outside she needs her shoes on... he she refuses to wear shoes she has to be carried and does not get to walk.
luvbug00 replied: Plain and simple NO.
Mommy2Isabella replied: I try my hardest to keep AT LEAST SOCKS on Isabella, I have a foot thing, I don't really like them AT ALL. LOL ...
Though Isabella has her own mind made up on this issue, I do what I can, and she isn't walking yet so ... you know its not that bad .. but Im one of those that puts the cart cover on the cart and most of the time on resturant high chairs. If I remember to bring it
Mommyof3 replied:
A&A'smommy replied: That sounds very alabama like NO NEVER EVER!!!! I have let her ride in a cart barefoot but thats only because we accidently left shoes at grandmas house.
Brias3 replied: Absolutey NEVER. Heck, my kids didn't even ever go without socks as little babies. I just don't think its appropriate, safe or sanitary.
Cece00 replied: NO. I think that is disgusting. The floors are so gross, not to mention that could be dangerous. I let my BABY go barefoot in public, because he is 9 months old and can not walk. But if you walk, you wear shoes.
Miranda1127 replied: no shoes no shirt no service...common courtesy. I believe this applies for all people but mostly for those who walk. Steven has been known to barefoot it, his sweaty baby feet just can’t handle anything more than sandals so when the weather doesn’t permit he is shoeless but not sockless
DillsMommy replied: I would NEVER even consider it!! We go barefoot around the house, in the yard, etc... but thats it. Never at a store. Gross.
luvmykids replied: Hey, you have a problem with me?
Just kidding, I only did that once and it was a true emergency.
No way would my kids be barefoot in public, as babies sure, but not now.
Danalana replied: I've been in pajama bottoms before, but never slippers.
jcc64 replied: Around the house, in the yard, etc, fine. I don't wear shoes either. (actually, it's culturally unacceptable to wear shoes in a Korean household). But in a store??? I didn't even realize that was legal. Aren't there health codes or whatever? I live in a town with alot of old hippies who haven't yet realized that the 60's ended a long time ago. I see them walking down the sidewalk in town with no shoes on, and it kind of cracks me up. Isn't that what Birkenstocks are for?!
grapfruit replied: I have to say if I'm at my house in the yard I'll go barefoot. But it's MY house, and we don't have a dog or anything....Although I'm not brave enough to go in the back yard barefoot, thisel city back there!
Kaitlin'smom replied: NO WAY...ewwwww not in public..ewww
