Do you still boil bottles? - 6 month old..

MomofTay&Sam wrote: Hi everyone,
I was prepared to nurse, spent a week in the hospital for my c-section. Was home one day and re-admitted for CHF. I was dieing so they said and was not going to die in the hospital. I wont go into details because it is off topic, but I was eventually diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs and kept in the hospital for days w/o my son. Then to go home and spend 3 weeks just seeing him. No touching allowed! Thats why I couldnt nurse. Now the real question here is..does everyone still boil their bottles and nipples? I boil them all every 2 days. What do you guys do? (my son is almost 6 months)

supermom replied: Even though I EBF, I used some bottles with the third one when my mom helped watch her while I got to go to the store in blissful peace!! laugh.gif

I never boiled my bottles, ever. I just made sure that I washed them really good in hot, soapy water. My ped said that boiling wasn't necessary unless we thought our tap water could be contaminated. We had had some problems a while back with the water and had already had it tested (we're on Rural Water, not city water) so we knew it was fine.

MomofTay&Sam replied: I use 6 Dr. Browns Bottles and 6 Platex bottles every few days. Hubby prefers the doc brown bottles. I scrub them all in hot soapy water and then boil everything till a raipid boil. I use a filter to fill the bottles. So you think the niples and stuff would be ok with just a good wash?

supermom replied: I would think so unless your little one has some issues as far as immunity - but just a good washing would suffice, I would say - Just my 2cents.gif

MomofTay&Sam replied: THANKs super MoM!!! wavey.gif

Heather replied: I have only boiled them a few times and that was when my dishwasher didn't have a full load. Otherwise I use my dishwasher. I EBF until 4 months so I didn't use bottles until then...but ever since I have just used the dishwasher.

Sorry you were kept from your son for so long...must have broke your heart!!

ediep replied: I do not breast feed, we use 6 playtex bottles everyday and the packageing of the nipples says only to boil before first unse then do not sterilize, only wash with hot soapy water. Thats what we do everyday.

mummyof2boyz replied: I usually just wash in hot soapy water. But about once a month I boil them. Just incase I may be missing something. I know I was them good, but maybe it just makes me feel better. tongue.gif

MommyToAshley replied: I BF, but I remember at the parenting class I took that they said it is not necessary to boil them anymore.

booey2 replied: A little late to the party, but in the early months I did boil the nipples up til about 3months then we use the dishwasher. Gotta love modern technology. Only thing with the dishwasher is to make sure you don't put a spaghetti sauce pot in, in the same load or they get tommatoe stains. ( I learned the hard way) rolleyes.gif

ROFL! rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I just stick em in the dishwasher.... nipples and all... and they're fine. My doc said that i don,t even need to use boiled water in the bottles for formula, but to NEVER use bottled water, because it has very little oxygen it them, which is BAD for baby. They NEED oxygen in the water.
