Do you tip at Sonic?

I dont leave a tip at the counter of dukin donuts either. What about Chilis drive up service? Do you tip that??

TANNER'S MOM replied: I do when the girl is friendly and especially if I have a big order. The thing with our Sonic is they never get my order right. Especially if I order a large water. I don't mind paying full price and I don't care too.. just bring me a large water. They never do, even if I repeat myself and reconfirm I want a large ice water. Ask Abbie we have been on the phone talking when this happens. So if I get a large water the first time.. I do tip her.

The thing is.. I noticed and I sometimes use the pay at the car service with my debit card. Now I am sure those girls are losing a lot of tips that way. No one has cash if they are using the debit card.

We don't have a chili's here. But we do have applebees and they have that carside to go. I usually tip them when I get it to go. I tip at starbucks if I go in, usually any coffee place I tip. My mom even tips the lady that does her nails and her hair. I never thought of that either.

TANNER'S MOM replied: I think the rule is always tip the people who are providing a service. With the exception to like your car mechanic.. I never tip someone like that. I do tip all the people mentioned above. I also tip the boy who carries out my groceries. Not much usually a dollar or two. I think the art of tipping is lost these days. I have friends I hate to eat out with because I know they are going to short tip or not tip at all. Yesterday we went to a local Pizza dive, I say dive because it's a small place, not the nicest but known for local good pizza. My friend was there with her 3 kids and I was there with my Dh and our 4 kids. We had 3 giant pizza's among us and the girl was completely confused about our drink orders. She was trying to do it from memory instead of writing it down and got it all wrong. She did fix it though. My friends two year spilled a whole bowl of ranch in the floor and made a huge mess. We got up to pay and she didn't tip at all. I was floored. I know what it's like to eat with small children but even in a place like that I clean up the best I can and tip really well for my kids mess. I whispered to Dh how much did you tip and he did the 20% and I made him go back and tip for my friend. I guess it's just been so long since I had ate with a small child and not to mention the screaming she did for more ranch after she dumped the rest in the floor.

Mom2Boyz replied: I never did until I started working there. I've been working there off and on for about 3 years now, and I have to say that "most" people do tip.
Believe it or not, with my tips and regular pay, I usually average around $15 per hour.

Edited To Add: Since they've installed the credit card machines at the stalls tips have decreased some. Many people, especially regular customers, still have a buck or two in cash to tip with though.

Jamison'smama replied: Almost always unless I am just ordering a drink. I tip most people but I never have cash on hand those rare times when flowers are delivered.

Brias3 replied: I can't remember the last time I was anywhere that they brought things to your car window (like a Sonic) so I'm not sure what I've done in the past but I suppose I'd give a couple of dollars for the order delivery. We usually go through the drive thru everywhere else.

In terms of any other type of service, I always tip. Guess being a waitress during college forever opened my eyes to being an appropriate tipper Even when at a bar or something (which is not frequent) I'll leave a dollar on the counter or if I order a few drinks at once, maybe 2 or 3.

luvmykids replied: I tip unless I'm at the drive through. But I'm a tipper anyway, I tip every chance I get, unless service is intentionally terrible.

BAC'sMom replied: Yes I do always! I even tipped the girl the other day in the drive thru. I was impressed that she had manners that are hard to find in teenagers in this day and age. And she said thank you ma’am after I did it.
