Do you worry about what's on TV?
MommyToAshley wrote: Since Ashley is going to bed a little later, sometimes I let her come in bed and play/watch TV with the DH and I in the evening. I will let her watch American Idol...but just about everything else, I am afraid to have on the television. So, if we want to watch something, we tape it and watch it after she goes to bed. I am not sure how much babies retain from television at this age, but I don't want to take any chances. She likes the news...with the close up of the faces, but they have been showing a lot of the war stuff and I don't want her watching that either. Am I being silly?
girlzmommy00 replied: Honestly I haven't worried that much about Lily and TV, though we just have it tuned to the Disney chanel, PBS kids and Noggin all day, when it's on
MommyToAshley replied: Yeah, I have it on PBS and Disney during the day too...she doesn't watch it much. She'd rather roll/scoot/crawl around the living room floor. hehe
5littleladies replied: Yes!!! We try our best to screen what they watch but I guess sometimes they see stuff that they shouldn't. A couple of days ago Maddie (our 5 year old) stuck her rear in the air and pointed at it and said "You want a piece of this?" I had to run out of the room to hide my laughter but when I asked her where she heard that she said on tv. I'm afraid to hear what she'll pick up next!!
ediep replied: OMG Jennifer, that is too funny!!! I would have done the same thing. I haven't really thought much about Jason with the TV, but I usually watch the food network or the Learning channel.
MommyToAshley replied: LOL! Sorry, don't mean to laugh, but that's funny!
5littleladies replied: LOL-oh you laugh now!! Just you wait!!
jdkjd replied: There is no way I would have made it out of the room...
Did you find out what program she got it from or was it a commercial?
5littleladies replied: I have no idea. I'm almost afraid to ask. lol
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Well at least it wasn't like some raunchy move by Christina Aguilera...if you 've seen her music video "Dirrty", you wouldn't want your kids listening to her (anymore)..... it's almost like a soft core adult video. Disgusting.
5littleladies replied: Yeah I get so disgusted with some of the female singers out there these days. I am already having to explain to my 5 year old daughter why we don't want her dressing like some of them. And she doesn't even have to see the actual people-Maddie wanted a Britney Spears barbie doll that had these itty bitty clothes on. The doll actually was wearing a thong!!
all of em'.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I've seen, in clothes stores for kids, thongs for little girls. Excuse me, what the heck does a 8-12 year old girl want a thong for? Underwear lines? Puh-LEASE!!!!!
to the parents who actually BUY them for the kids - duh!!!!!
(don't mean to offend anyone who's ever bought a thong for a very very minor girl, I just think that maybe teens dress too sleazy, because the parents LET THEM!!!)
ashade75 replied: I totally agree!! My 12 yo daughter asked for a thong because all of her friends are wearing them. She said it is becuase they regular undies stick out of the back of low rise jeans and thongs look cool sticking out. I said "EXCUSE ME?!?!" ..... and she said "Gulp, um never mind..."
I guess its time for her to buy different jeans
Schnoogly replied: Um, isn't this how Monica Lewisnsky scored the president? Ask if your daughter wants to be as uncool as her!
Hearing this makes me kind of glad I have a boy. I only have to worry about him asking for toy guns (um, no way!!!!!!)
We have the TV on a lot, but I am mostly watching the food network so maybe he'll become a chef??
DH also likes to watch sesame street with him--he loves elmo's voice (argh)
