Do your children floss?

coasterqueen wrote: If your child does floss, is it every day, once a week, what? And at what age did they start flossing?

CantWait replied: Robbie flosses, although he's a boy and rarely remembers. I think we started with him around 6 or so.

I floss Anthony's teeth every so often but not often enough to say that I really do.

Jamison'smama replied: Jamison flosses her teeth--has for about a year. I haven't flossed Jack's teeth. I started when she went to the dentist for the first time--she uses the kid flossers and loves to do it. .

coasterqueen replied:
Ok, I feel real bad. blush.gif happy.gif Does Jami go to a pediatric dentist. Our dentist is just a family one and he won't accept children til they are of age 4. So Kylie went with me this morning to watch me get my teeth cleaned and then she'll go on October 6 to get hers done. I asked if I needed to floss her teeth and they said at least once a week.

amynicole21 replied: I said no, but Sophia does *try* to floss sometimes. I worry that she'll hurt her gums though because she doesn't do it right and just sort of saws back and forth. wacko.gif I tried to do it for her once, but do you know how hard it is to floss someone else's teeth?? blink.gif Nora likes to suck on the flavored floss happy.gif

DansMom replied: I floss Daniel's teeth every night since his first Dental visit, so it's been about six months. I use those little disposable flossers, because it's easier. He also practices on his own with the long floss sometimes. He brushes his own teeth in the morning and I do the night brushing.

Don't feel bad if your preschooler isn't doing this yet. I'm lucky---he's extremely cooperative about such things. I just told him "The Dentist said we must do this"---appealed to a higher authority, and he still objects sometimes.

C&K*s Mommie replied: I learned something new today! I never even thought to floss the girls' teeth, then again they have never been to a dentist. blush.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: Katherine is like Daniel. She lets me floss her teeth since the dentist said to do it. rolleyes.gif

I typically only do it after we've eaten something like pork chops or corn on the cob. If it's spaghetti night, forget it. rolling_smile.gif It's pretty easy to do their teeth with those kids flossers since they have so much space between them. I've found that if I keep floss next to the tv remotes, I'm more apt to remember to do it. I'm almost always on the couch trying to watch a show with the girls at least once a day.

Jamison'smama replied:
Yes, she went to a pediatric dentist at 3 ---they just brushed/flossed and counted her teeth. She has another appointment in a couple of weeks. I also bought those little disposable flossers, she uses them some but does saw back and forth until she bleeds so I do it for her. She doesn't floss daily--we need to get better at it. I found that insurance covered the pediatric dentist just as they do mine and since she's on the plan we went as soon as her pediatrician recommended it.

My3LilMonkeys replied: I can barely remember to floss myself - I'm terrible. blush.gif

JP&KJMOM replied: Mine do but not everyday. They have a GREAT ped. dentist that they love so if she tells them to do something then they have no problem doing it. We either use the disposable ones or they both have the one that the handle looks like a toothbrush and you replace the floss piece on the end.

coasterqueen replied: Well I put those little kid flossy things on my errand list this weekend. Maybe I can convince her to do it. tongue.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Same here. Whenever the dentist asks how often I floss I'm thinking "Floss? What's that?". Tanner does every once in awhile. He likes those Wild Flossers you can get at the store. He's good about brushing his teeth though. He had his first dentist visit at age 3 and he checked out perfectly, even let the dentist polish his teeth. His next appointment is next month.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I myself haven't been to the dentists in almost 2 years. emlaugh.gif

I need to go though, my front teeth have some enamel that's chipped away. blush.gif

Zach has an appointment in November though, since November 1st is when dh's new dental insurance plan kicks in.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I voted no. I brush his teeth twice a day and with the spaces between Logan's teeth, it doesn't seem like floss could get anything that the brush can't. We'll see when he goes to the dentist next year.

luvbug00 replied: Mya is OBSESSED with flossing. need I say more
