Doctors appt. today.

My doctor told me she is going on vacation next week (so I have to see another doctor) but the following week I'll see her again and she said "by then you'll be 38 weeks, I'll strip your membranes and we'll have us a baby!" I was excited, but it didn't actually hit me until I was in the elevator and realized...wait a minute, if she strips my membranes I could go into labor THAT DAY and it's only TWO weeks away! YIKES!! I'm getting nervous!
Anybody have their membranes stripped and did it make labor start right away??

CantWait replied: WOW exciting!!!!! I had my membranes striped on my due date and within a half hour I was in labor. Had him the very next day very early.

boyohboyohboy replied: excuse the stupid question, but what is stripping the membranes and why do they do that? why not just let it happen when it happens?
i have never heard that before.

Heather replied: WOW you are getting soo soo close!! I had my membranes stripped with Alison, a few hours later I was in labor, I had the next morning!! Good luck with everything. Soon, you will be holding sweet baby!!

Bamamom replied: Had the membranes stripped mulitiple times with each child and was still a week late with each - but I hope you have better luck!!!!

Not a stupid question at all. Stripping your membranes is when the doc puts her finger through your cervix and 'sweeps' it across the membrane covering the baby. They do this because it stimulates the production of prostaglandins which helps get labor started. Also, semen has prostaglandins in it which is another reason why DTD gets things going.
