Does Mahmoud Ahmadinejad scare you? - UN speech calling for armagedon!

ataylorm wrote: Does anyone else get a little worried about the safety of their family with this guy around?

I read his speech at the U.N. yesterday, and he basically goes on and on about how the world must worship only one god, and that we wants to hasten the coming of armagedon and that peace will only come after islam controls the world and armagedon has come.

Now I am not trying to start a political debate here, but does this guy just creep you out a bit? When you hear people like this, who have the power to do what they desire, do you tuck your kids in a little more firmly at night? Do you hug them a little tighter before school?

If you haven't read it, you can read it hear: Speech Text

holley79 replied: To be totally honest I'm not worried. That's all I'm going to say.

cameragirl21 replied: Of course, he's threatened Israel explicitly many times and he's been called the new hitler and I am a Jew so it's a no brainer for me.
But back to our old discussion of faith, all I can do is have faith that he will be properly taken care of before he can do the world any more harm.
Unfortunately there's nothing more than that that I personally can do, other than voting for politicians who oppose him or will challenge him.
Our president, while I didn't vote for him seems to be quite eager to get rid of Ahmadinijad and hopefully he won't be a dishonest politician, as we've been discussing the notion of honest v dishonest politicians earlier and will follow through on his word.

mom2my2cuties replied: I think any radical - no matter what thier beliefs are tend to worry me - especially if thier beliefs involve wiping out the things that I hold near & dear.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: In total fear, here. unsure.gif

Something drastic needs to happen and soon. I fear there are small cells in every major city in the US and they plan on blowing up the US simultaneously. Who knows what these people are capable of? Who knows what they are planning? They HATE us. Let's do what it takes to get rid of them.

Like I said, I don't know enough to debate. This is my rundown of thoughts on what I've heard the past two weeks.

mom2my2cuties replied: As usual - I am agreeing with Amiee again. I also don't know enough to debate.

Just to clarify something - When Andrew said he doesn't want to start a debate - he means it. :-) His statements are rarely veiled.

TheOaf66 replied: well in all honesty, one of the reasons a lot of these countries hate us so much is that we are involved with everyone else's problems...the oath the US took on to be the "keeper" of the world, if we would keep to ourselves and solve our own problems they might not care so much about us. I am not trying to spark some heated debate just giving an opinion, I just don't think we should be "obligated" to fix other peoples problems when no one seems to help us. How many countries owe us a TON of money?, were there any other countries over here after 9/11? That is just some stuff that I think.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Yeah, I tried to stay away from 'debate' words. I had to edit b/c my feelings are very strong right now. blush.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: I get uncomfortable around any really unbalanced whack job. He fits the bill and he has power too. Yeah, he makes me nervous.

ataylorm replied: TheOaf66,

While I don't disagree with your comments entirely (thats a debate best left off this board), I do think you skipped the majority of his speech... Particularly.

The world will not be at peace until the entire world worships the one god of islam and that it's his duty to bring amagedon to the world in order to usher in the reign of islam on everyone.

He didn't say Americans or British, he didn't say Mexicans or Canadians, he didn't say Cubans or Russians. He said THE ENTIRE WORLD.

Most whack jobs don't worry me, but this guy actually has the ability to do a lot of what he wants to do. He may and may not have nukes, but he does have entire armies of sucide bombers, chemical weapons, etc, etc.

TheOaf66 replied:
I am just not communicating well today, I should have mentioned I was skewing a bit off topic. I did not mean this situation specifically, I was referring to in general the whole Middle East thing. Sorry for the confusion, I ramble sometimes dunno.gif

CantWait replied: Armegedon is coming. Nostradamis talked about in his visions, and many of those visions, including the downfall of the twin towers and how they would come down has already come true. WWIII is coming also.

ataylorm replied: But does knowing/believing that change how you treat your family? What you do during the day? etc?

CantWait replied:
Not at all. I don't live in fear for the future. The day we start living in fear is the day we stop living life the way we know it. That's why we have soldiers in Afghanistan right now (I'll back to this point time and time again), so that we don't have to live in fear. I can't love my kids any less,or do anymore with them then I do now.

mom2my2cuties replied:
Nostradamis did NOT predict the fall of the Twin Towers

Armegedon is coming - The bible says this - And I personally believe it is happening soon. I think its will also be WWIII

I don't know about anyone else, and honestly, what each believes is thier own business - but for me and my house - I believe (as with Christians everywhere) it's time to get our houses in order.

CantWait replied:
I can't read that link due to my computer problem.

However my husband is very much into Nostradamis, and have read and watched many documentries on the subject.

Maybe you just read it differently then we do.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
No, because I know God will watch over us. I don't want to live every day in fear so I keep my faith closer to me than anything else. I stay as close to my family as much as possible, but that's not because of wack jobs like this.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
I totally agree> If you read the Bible and get a hold on what Revelations says, it's all to scary and true. Just the fact where Babylon once stood scares me to death. It's some freaky stuff how it all adds up to what is happening around us!

mom2my2cuties replied: Marie - The biggest problem with Nostradamis's predictions about the twin towers, is that the ones that claim they predict those, were written after his death.

There are some interesting statements I remember hearing about right after 9/11 (and you guys may now if these were true or not)

There were kids all over the country who told thier teachers in the days leading up to 9/11 that the towers were going to fall and WWIII was going to start in New York City.

I know of one Pakistani boy in New Jersey who during a debate class pointed out the window to the WTC and said "Those wont be there next week"

I have heard of others, but I remember that one in particular.

ataylorm replied: Religion and politics aside, if there was a serious threat against the U.S., would you do anything extra to care for your family? Prepare a disaster kit? Drive your kids to school instead of taking the bus? Tell your DH or DW that you love them just a little bit more before they go to work?

Or do you prefer to turn a blind eye, hopeing that you will be protected from anything that might happen?

I mean faith, religion, and politics all have their place. But the 3000 people in the towers all had one or more of those, and they still died.

When that happened, did you even for a small amount of time spend more time with your family? Hug them a little tighter? Read to them a little longer? Hesitate a little more when they left?

mom2my2cuties replied:
It is scary. Revlations scares the bejeezies out of me. I remember, when I first started going to church, the very first scripture I learned (ok whole chapter) was Revelations 13 - And I came home quoting it...And went to school quoting it. Scared lots of my little classmates too

mom2my2cuties replied:
Well I am already almost anal about telling my husband I love him before he goes to work. But I think I would take whatever precautions I could to keep my family safe. Being that we live in Nashville, and I don't know that we would be the 'center' of an attack, I don't know how far I would go with it. But i would do what I could to keep the kids safe.

C&K*s Mommie replied: There are serious threats posed against the US and other allies every day. Many of which are not known of period. So to answer the question, no I am not going to hunker down anymore than what I currently am doing. I prepare the best I can for the predictable- hurricanes for example. But being fearful of what may or may not happen as the result of a radical leader is not for me. I am fearful of The Lord, not of another human who has chosen to harm me. If he or any of his followers were to end my life early, that is one day sooner that I went to be with My Father in Heaven.

I refuse to live in fear.

As for holding my babies (hubby included) tighter, and spending an extra moment with them that is the case each day I am given to awake to them. No one knows what will occur that day, I want to know that if something happens to one of them during the day (accident, terrorist act, unexpected health issue) that I was able to say my "love you's" and give loves kisscheek.gif to them one final time.

My faith and what I have chosen to believe will not be the ultimate shield for me or anyone else. Anyone who believes that their faith or what they choose to believe will keep a barrier around them from evil, is sorely mistaken, IMO. I know I will die one day, I accept that. But it is that life after my death that is where my faith is carrying me to. My faith also helps me to deal with major events, death and despair, the devil convincing me of things, and the small trivialities of life and recognizing where they truly belong.

soapbox.gif stepping down now... blush.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: same here. THAT, and what is to come scares me moreso than anything else.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Nicole, you took the words right out of my mouth, only I could never have explained it as well as you have. smile.gif

mckayleesmom replied: I don't like talking about this stuff...or hearing about it. I think all it does is instill fear and make people paranoid.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Me neither. Quite honestly, there are other things terrorizing our country as well we need to focus on...cancer, muderers, etc., not just the threat of terrorists. I personally am more afraid of someone kidnapping my baby and other things like that.

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
VERY well said, Nicole!!! thumb.gif hug.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: There is one person who knows what is going to happen and when
will I live in fear heck no nor will my kids
What is put into print I take with a grain of salt.

redchief replied: Oh my goodness, hasn't this become a gloomy thread. I'm going to address some of the concerns raised here when I come home tonight. Is it the eve of the Apocalypse? I don't think so. Are Nostradamos' predictions finally coming true? I ask, can we base our existence on the rantings of a poetic star-gazer? For now, I'll leave you all with the famous words of R.E.M.

"That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane -
Lenny Bruce is not afraid. Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn -
world serves its own needs, regardless of your own needs. Feed it up a knock,
speed, grunt no, strength no. Ladder structure clatter with fear of height,
down height. Wire in a fire, represent the seven games in a government for
hire and a combat site. Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry with the furies
breathing down your neck. Team by team reporters baffled, trump, tethered
crop. Look at that low plane! Fine then. Uh oh, overflow, population,
common group, but it'll do. Save yourself, serve yourself. World serves its
own needs, listen to your heart bleed. Tell me with the rapture and the
reverent in the right - right. You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright
light, feeling pretty psyched.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine."

ashtonsmama replied:

100% agree with Jennie.

And 101% right on Nic with what you said. Couldn't have said it better if I tried.

jcc64 replied: Live for today, that's what I'm trying to do.....

kit_kats_mom replied: we do have our disaster kit and a nebulous plan in place. We are adding to our kit as money allows and tightening up our plan as well. I try to savor the day to day and I make sure that those I love, know it.
I do fear what people with such strong beliefs are capable of. The sad thing is that I really fear that they will strike where we are really tender, our kids. I'm dreading the attacks on schools and I'm sure they are going to happen. I hope they don't but I wouldn't be suprised at all. It is one of the reasons (among others) that we are leaning more and more towards homeschooling.

ETA: how come I'm the only scaredy cat? huh.gif blush.gif

Nina J replied: Personally, I'm not worried. There are always going to be dangerous people in the world, murderers, rapists, people like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

It's scary, but if we spend our whole lives worrying about the end of the world and stuff we arn't going to have much fun. I had a dream a few weeks ago, someone kidnapped Emily and cut her hands off..I got up and was freaked out for awhile, but I got over it.

I don't want to spend my time always worrying about what could happen, will this happen, etc. Yes, things could happen and we should be aware, but we can't let it constantly preoccupy our minds.
