Does My baby Weigh too Much???

MyNewLittleMan wrote: Well My Baby Weighs 10 lbs and 6 oz He weighed 8lbs and 2 oz when he was born 1 month and 3 days ago, I just want some opinions. Dont get me wrong I am in love with my baby boy he is the love wub.gif of my life I dont know what i would do without him, I am Just afraid I may be over feeding him.

MommyToAshley replied: It sounds like he is doing wonderfully to me. I am not an expert, but I really don't think you can over-feed babies.... it will come out one way or another. wink.gif I remember thinking that I must be feeding my daughter too much because it seems like she was nursing 24/7 the first few months. She was a big girl, always at the top of the charts in both height and weight, but she is a perfectly healthy toddler. (And was a healthy baby as well) wub.gif I was actually kind of sad when all her baby fat disappeared.

P.S. What a cute picture of your son, he looks so alert and, so CUTE! wub.gif

paradisemommy replied: i agree with dee dee..don't think it's possible for you to overfeed your infant. my son was born 8.6 at his 1 month appt. (1 month and 2 days old) he weighed in at 11.2 so looks like he's growing perfectly!!! good job mommy! wink.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: You cannot overfeed a baby. They will throw up what is too much. smile.gif laugh.gif

THing is though - about babies - sometimes they SEEM like they're eating and eating and eating.... but remember that the sucking motion brings milk (especially from a bottle, but you didnt say if you were breastfeeding or bottle feeding), which brings them to swallow, and the motion for swallowing allows more milk to get into their mouth. If he turns away, give him a break....but if you try to take the nbipple out of his mouth when he's not sucking vigorously and he clamps down, let him keep it, and if you do take the nipple out, put the nipple back close to his mouth and he turns to it, give him more.

Babies know their bodies better than we do. Crying is the LAST sign of hunger usually when parents feed their babies, don't forget. If you offer regularly (as in at least every hour for the first 6 weeks of life....), whether they take it or not, you're doing ok. Don't forget that when you feed every 4 hours, you are MAKING a routine for a baby, not necessarily following the baby's patterns.... and that you should offer pretty much at the first sign of fussiness if they've slept recently and if they've been changed recently.

For older children, eating habits develop when children are forced to eat when they're not hungry. Just because you are hungry at dinner time doesn't mean the child is.... lol and they'll get used to eating even if they don't need to...hence obesity.

Hope something in here helps!!! laugh.gif

JAYMESMOM replied: From my opinion your son is doing fine. Babies gain weight faster early on and then slow down and sometimes plateau.

Babies will not eat if they are not hungry.

Don't worry!!!!!!

jcc64 replied: Babies know what they need. It's up to us to learn their cues, and you will.
Hey Zach'smom- this is the 2nd time in 2 days that I've been impressed by your wealth of knowledge about health issues. Are you a medical professional, or just a very experienced btdt mom?

Hillbilly Housewife replied:

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Sounds fine to me! I don't believe that babies can be overweight either or eat too much. He'll let you know if he's had too much! Keep up the good work! thumb.gif

A&A'smommy replied: haha lol my baby was born at 8.9 ounce I thought she was huge but I never though i was overfeeding her she weighed about the same at her one month app. He's fine and REALLY cute too! thumb.gif

MyNewLittleMan replied: Thank You all Sooooooo Much for your feedback, and Thank you all for the compliments on my baby boy. I feel alot better now! biggrin.gif rolling_smile.gif

moped replied: You want your baby to gain weight - he sounds like he is doing fabulously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT WORRY AT ALL!!!

Jack was 10 pounds at birth and now at 10 months weighs 26 pounds - YIPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is not fat!!!!!

Emeraldsmom replied: Sounds like hes doing great. My daughter Emerald was 8 lbs. and 7 oz. when she was one month she was exactly 10 lbs. She is 7 months old now and I just had her at the doc. today and she is 20 lbs. and 5 oz.! The doc says she is a little bigger than babies her age, but she is just fine and healthy. So it sounds like your little one is doing great!
