Does anyone here scrapbook?
coasterqueen wrote: My friend dragged me to her scrapbook party last night. I told her I couldn't afford to buy anything but of course I got suckered into it, lol. It was a Creative Memories scrapbook party. Anyone hear of them?
Well I bought a scrapbook album and am going to try scrapbooking again. I guess I'll start with Kylie's 2nd year and someday maybe work backwords to finish birth through the 1st year. That's assuming I'll be able to keep up with one for Kylie and for the new baby.
Anyways, I can't afford to buy all the stuff from CM that they offer to actually scrapbook but I did love their albums. So I was thinking I could get my materials to decorate at just local places in town.
How do you know what is safe to put on the pages, etc? KWIM? The lady last night of course said the only safe things to put on the pages are what CM offers.
Any advice from fellow scrapbookers?
MommyToAshley replied: I don't scrapbook, but I wish I did. I am not even sure where to get started.
Good Luck! You'll have to show us some pages when you are done.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I dont scrapbook but my sitter does, I can ask her tomorrow for you if she know of the stuff, but if you really want to do it then I say find the stuff at JoAnns, or even Walmart. You can get creative with in-expensive stickers and construction paper....there is tons you can do with very little money. Even old catalogs and stuff. I really am not into but I love the one she started for me
amynicole21 replied: I spent a TON at a creative memories party about a year ago and have done maybe 6 pages in Sophia's book. I'm up to "coming home from the hospital!"
You can go to any craft store to buy supplies. Just look for acetone free papers and stickers. They try to scare you into thinking that they are falsely advertising the safety of the products, but I tend to think they are ok... that's just me though!
There's also tons of stuff on ebay
jolene555 replied: hello. my name is jo and i am a scrapbooking addict. it's so sad.
anyways . . . i do not buy any creative memories stuff. talk about expencive!! i shop at local stores occasioanlly, but most of my supplies come from Michael's or EBAY. it really depends on how detailed you want to be. i know some people like to have interactive pages with letters you can open and such, buttons, ribbon all over the place. i am much simpler than that. i use cards that georgia got at the baby shower/holidays, wrapping paper from those occasions, stickers, ect.
as far as "safe" goes, you are supposed to buy items that are acid free. acid free paper, acid free tape, acid free ribbon.
i think it is an awesome hobby. relieves a lot of my stress. sometimes i find myself taking pictures of her just so i can do another page.
hope it helps.
ediep replied: i am a scrapbooking addict!!! I have one finished scrapbook from when I first found out I was preg with J, to his first b-day. The second scrapbook I have is from his first b-day to now....still some more pages, hoping to make it to Christmas or so.
I started with Crative Mem stuff but it got too expensive. I mostly buy stuff at Target, Walmart, Rag Shop, or a local Scraobooking store that we have here (scraps of Life)
just like jolene said, make sure its acid free and its fine. I also use cards that I put in whole or I cut up, ribbons, and other stuff that I just want to save. I use scotch double sided tape to stick the things in. Its way cheaper than the adhesive that CM sells.
Have fun!
MommyToAshley replied: OK you scrapbook addicts, can you share some of your pages? If you have a digital camera, maybe you could take a picture of the page and post. I need some ideas, I don't even know where to begin.
jolene555 replied: oh what fun!! i'm going to try to take pics of my favorite pages later today and see how well it works!!!
i have 2 scrapbooks so far - 1 from before georgia was born to 5 months (yes, i love to scrapbook!!!) and 1 from then until right before her first birthday. it really is so much easier once you get a good collection of supplies going. i look at some of my first pages and see how dull they are compared to some i am doing now.
here are some links that i've used for inspiration:
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Farm/9753/index.html - a great site filled with page theme ideas, gorgeous poems and quotes - everything you need!
http://www.wantedfonts.com/ - free downloadable fonts - very cool
http://scrapbooking.com/ - obvious
later!
jolene555 replied: here's one i did last night - it's the cover page to the second album. pardon the quality - i have a $20 digital camera.
the top is cut off, but there is a little sticker up there that says simply "growing up".
MommyToAshley replied: OH how CUTE!!! Now, I want to do one.
Thanks for the links too, I'm going to do some research and then pick up some supplies
coasterqueen replied: Wow Jolene! I didn't do anything that impressive. I'm not creative and tend to be a bit more "simple". Hee hee. I'll take a pic of mine tomorrow when I feel like walking down stairs to upload the pic to my computer.
jolene555 replied: how i long for a decent camera! i am going to post somemore tomorrow, probubly under a new topic. i have so many tips on how to do these cheap. barry tells me i should make scrapbooks for other people for money, but i am not convinced that anyone would buy it, lol.
coasterqueen replied: I thought of you last night Edie when I was surfing Ebay. I saw some puzzle die-cut frames out there! There were cute.
coasterqueen replied: You should do that Jolene!!! WHEN I did have some money I was searching for someone locally to hire to do mine, but never did. I found many online who do it though. You should so go for it!
coasterqueen replied: Okay, here is my simple page. Nothing compared to Jolene's . It's just one side of the page because that's all they let us do the other night. I'll add the other side when I get my order.
MommyToAshley replied: That looks great Karen! I love how the Red goes with your Cardinals theme.
jolene555 replied: lol - if you are a cardinals fan, then maybe you are local to me . . . i live in collinsville, il. cardinals are cleaning up this year!!!
coasterqueen replied: OMG I didn't know you live that close! We'll have to hook up sometime if you are interested . I went to college (some of it, lol) at SIUE and so wanted to live down in that area permanently but DH didn't. We have college buddies down there and I even travel to Florissant Missouri to meet some people from another board .
YES! We are major Cardinal fans!!!!
