Does anyone here speak - fluent spanish

kellibellisdillybear replied: I am far from fluent, I too took 2 classes in spanish, and am married to a mex/american who isn't fluent either but his fam is. My job requires a lot of spanish, and I can tell you, book spanish is not usually "spoken" spanish here. There are a lot of dialects dep. on what country it comes from, and as always a lot of slang. So no, Dora probably does not speak the same Spanish your friend does, but I bet Dora could order a burger in Mexico while your friend can only get some water!

Ignore your friend, and kudos to you and Alyssa for wanting to learn!

P.S. I'm sure the network would never run anything incorrect

MM'sMama replied: I agree I don't think they would air it if it wasn't "correct" someone would have said or done soemthing by now. A group of some sort. And I have a friend who speaks it fluent in spanish and she has never said anything bad about it and her daughter wachs it all the time. I'll ask her about it tomorrow though.

maestra replied: Everything I have ever heard Dora say is Gramatically correct. However, sometimes they use a phrase for something that wouldn't have been my first choice. It just has to do with educated/common Spanish, and the different Spanish used in different areas. We don't speak the same kind of English as Josie and our other friends from the U.K. do, but we're all speaking the same language. It doesn't mean we don't say it right, it's just a dialetical difference.

Your friend may also have heard something in a tense that she didn't know, and thought that it wasn't correct. For example, if you want to say something in the command form- like to tell someone to do something, you use a form of the verb that can sound just like the present tense, but a little different. Ie- tengo means I have, but if you want to tell someone to have something (ie have your money ready) you would say tenga (su dinero listo). Someone who only knows a little beginning Spanish might get confused by these concepts.

I speak fluent Spanish, but after 10 years I still make errors too. I get all of my translations checked by a friend and there is always red marks on them still.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Yeah... I shudder at certain words used sometimes too. I took spanish in high school, still *speak* some.... but the spanish I hear sometimes on tv isn`t the spanish I learned. It's not 'wrong'...it's just not what I've learned

I get disgusted with French shows that try to teach english and really massacre the word.

When someone says 'on va aller parker' (which means 'we'll go park') he says:

No mamma, pas parker, c'est STATIONNER.

Which means no mom, not 'parker' it's 'park' (the correct word in french)

it`s so funny... he corrects EVERYBODY... when they say truck to mean the word CAMION (in french) he tells them it`s not a truck, it's a camion.... it`s so funny!!!

My mom made me stop watching several french children`s shows when I was little because of their incorrect terminology for certain english words. I can`t stand them even now.
