Dog toy - Kong - question

coasterqueen wrote: For those who use Kongs for their dogs what do you put in there besides the can peanut butter and biscuits you can buy for them? I'm trying to figure out what else I can put in there that the dogs would enjoy. TIA!

cameragirl21 replied: not sure what a kong is but I'm gonna go with cheese...?

bluebear replied: Treats, if it is the right size you can put a rope inside for the dog to pull out.

MommyToAshley replied: Ok, I am curious, what is a kong? smile.gif

bluebear replied: A kong is a rubber toy with a hole inside it. You can put treats, peanut butter, etc for the dog to get out

coasterqueen replied: They are good at keeping them entertained when you can't. tongue.gif Right now I give it to the pup at bedtime, so he stays occupied for just a little time, hopefully gets sleepy so he doesn't HOWL until I fall asleep. laugh.gif It's working so far. I just use the spray can peanut butter you can buy especially for Kong.

Ryan didn't think Gavin would like a Kong so I never got one before, but then he got a hold of Buster's and he went nuts over it. So I bought him one, but his is so huge that I would spend a fortune on the Kong spray peanut butter.

So I guess I'm wondering if I can put regular things in there like regular peanut butter, cream cheese, cheese, etc? Any other ideas?

coasterqueen replied:
Rope wouldn't entertain them. They've (Buster & Gavin) have discovered that they like the girls' beanie babies much more instead. rolleyes.gif laugh.gif I think I owe Kylie several BB's because Gavin took them and I had to convince her to let him have them. blush.gif emlaugh.gif

bluebear replied: Regular peanut butter can go inside it. I always thought dogs can't have cream cheese, but you can put dog food in it, or a toy (if it will fit)

coasterqueen replied:
huh.gif Oooh, really? I'm a first time dog and puppy owner so I have NO clue what I'm doing. tongue.gif Well I had dogs growing up, but never the "parent" to them. tongue.gif

bluebear replied: well I don't have a dog, but I always stuff my cousin's pittbull/boxer's kong with treats. he's put a lot of peanut butter in it. Have you tried those lollipops for the dogs? they have peanut butter as well as something else I can't remember now.

cameragirl21 replied: my dog that I had growing up ate cream cheese and he was fine. I didn't give him lots but when I had a bagel with cream cheese, he got some of it and he never got sick.
Large amounts of dairy may be too much for any domestic animal, dog or cat but in reasonable amounts, it is fine, I think.

boyohboyohboy replied: I have no idea what is in it but in the same isle as the kongs is puppy paste...
we use treats and food..
we of course cant use peanut butter.

Boo&BugsMom replied: I get soft treats and smoosh a bunch in there until it's packed. Takes her awhile to get them all out.

DVFlyer replied: You can also freeze them once you load them with p-nut butter, or cream cheese etc....

Makes it last a bit longer.

holley79 replied:
It's funny you say that. Our dogs are addicted to ice right now. We load it with beef broth and freeze them. Takes a while to get it out and keeps them occupied.

kit_kats_mom replied: we stuff rocky's with
1. peanut butter lining the inside, dry kibble stuck inside and part of a cheese stick or something crammed in there and topped with more pb. this is also great frozen and lasts longer.

2. honey, a few smelly dog treats and dog food topped with pb.

3. wet dog food crammed in with a few treats and pb to plug the big hole...freeze.

4. cheeze whiz dog food and a treat or two

5. wet and dry dog food mixed and frozen.

the frozen ones last longer and are much appreciated after a hot walk.

I have three. One for the morning, one for when we need him to relax in the living room and one for when we go to bed. I stuff them all in the AM and freeze 2

aspenblue1 replied: You can use cheese whiz. I usually put peanut butter with a little of their food in it and freeze it so it will last longer.
