Dr. vent - and I don't even have one
5littleladies wrote: I'm starting to consider having Dh deliver this baby. I don't have a doctor yet and I don't know what I'm going to do. My Ob left our clinic a couple months ago and now there are 2 new ones but the way they work makes me want to find another alternative. If you have to deliver on the weekend whichever Ob is on call that weekend delivers the baby. That would be fine but one of the Ob's is a really creepy looking guy and I don't want him to be doing anything with the lower half of my body. I would just go to one of the Family doctors at the clinic but none of the women are accepting new patients. I have nothing against men doctors but I've seen most of the ones at our clinic and I don't really like any of them. I don't know what to do and I really should go in soon.
amynicole21 replied: I know EXACTLY what you mean. At my practice, there are 2 male docs who always make me feel really stupid, and one great female midwife. Had I gone into labor on my own, whomever was on duty at the time would have delivered me. Luckily, I was induced and just happened to see the midwife that day so she delivered me. Are there any mommies in your neighborhood that you can ask for recommendations?
lsjulee replied: You have to feel comfortable with the person who is going to deliver your baby. Hope you found one soon.
MomToMany replied: So sorry you are having sch a hard time. I know when I was having Kayla, they quit seeing OB patients at our local hospital. They're excuse was malpractice insurance was too high, and there isn't enough OB patients to have the insurance.
Now this same clinic/hospital is spending $10 million+ in upgrading/adding on, which is total BS to me. They can spend money on that, but not to see OB patients??? So I had to see a Dr. an hour's drive away, and deliver in that hospital. Now I found out that this Dr. had a baby with a broken collar bone, and the baby suffered nerve damage in his arm also. It was due to the birth, and the parents didn't find out for a few weeks. The baby was unusually fussy and would scream in pain everytime he nursed. So, when we have our next one, I don't know what the heck I'm going to do!!!
kit_kats_mom replied: There was just an article about the malpractice insurance pemiums driving ob's out of business. I think it was in my Child Magazine. Interesting stuff but I can't find a link to it online. Luckily (sarcasam) Florida is the worst and many OB's are going out of business. Mom's are having a hard time finding anyone, much less someone they like, to deliver their babies.
Actually the broken collar bone is a pretty normal thing. I was actually born with one too. That's a pretty flimsy bone and when you are going through the birth canal, it can snap without any help from a Dr. Honestly, if people are suing over stuff like that, I can totally see how Dr's would be driven out of practice. Not that I would want it to happen to my baby but if it did, I don't think I'd sue. Now the nerve damage is a different story, if it was proven to be the OB's fault then I would want the medical expenses covered but that's it.
DansMom replied: Have you looked into midwives in your area, if there are any? I hope you find someone you can count on. I'm very lucky where I live---there are a lot of Nurse-Midwives, it's a whole practice operating out of the University of Michigan Hospitals, and they do all of the same things during medical appointments (but fewer ultrasounds and dilation checks, since they don't think they are medically necessary). They are great at delivering babies---better than OB's, in my opinion (I've seen two births with an OB---the doc was only there at the end and spent no time with the moms). I had to take whichever midwife was on call, and in fact I was on the third midwife by the time that baby came out, but they were all women and they were all great, so I felt comfortable.
MomToMany replied: Gosh, I think it would be wonderful to have a midwife, but there aren't any up here. Believe me, I've checked. And I don't think I could convince DH to go all the way to Duluth (MN) just to see a midwife. So I guess I'm just stuck with crappy Dr.'s!
MommyToAshley replied: Have you called your insurance company and asked for a list of OB doctors that they cover? Maybe you could interview a few in your area and find one that you like. I don't know what else to recommend. I ended up switching OB's when I was six months PG because I hated the practice that I had chosen. The second OB I found was awesome. He specialized in high risk and understood all the fears I had after a loss.... I wish I had found him first.
Good luck, I hope you can find one soon.
5littleladies replied: Ok-I may have found one! I just have to check to see if my insurance will cover this clinic. The catch is that it is a new clinic and I'm nervous that it might close before I deliver. They currently have 1 midwife and 1 ob ( I think). I'll decide for sure tomorrow (crossing my fingers).
amynicole21 replied: Yep! My practice (in Florida of course) stopped carrying malpractice insurance all together! Crazy.
coasterqueen replied: Oh I'd love to have a midwife versus an ob! We have the same problem in our ob's office. Our ob decided she had a dinner date and couldn't be there in case we went into labor so the other man from her practice ended up delivering Kylie. I really like him more but I'm having a hard time telling her I'd rather have him, lol. So we're going to stick with her. Ugh! I don't like doctors, lol.
Hope the one you picked works out for you!
kimberley replied: *if* i have another baby, i already told DH to put his catcher's mitt on because i will NOT be going back to my OB after my unnecessary induction with Jade. i may look for a midwife. not sure yet.
hope things work out with the clinic for you
MommyToAshley replied: I hope this one works out for you! Let us know how it goes.
MomToMany replied: I hope you found a good one Jennifer!! Let us know how it goes!!
kit_kats_mom replied: Mine dropped their malpractice last year too. We had to sign a waiver.
