punkeemunkee'smom replied: Honestly E-coli in meat doesn't really ever surprize me. E-coli is present in the intestine of cattle, so it is gonna happen. There are safety measures in place but if the meat gets too warm or is contaminated by a small amount of fecal matter (GROSS I know ) E-coli can and will breed. I hope that all of the people who have become ill get well quickly!

NaturalMom replied: this is why i wont buy my meat at walmart or anywhere commercial really. i always go to the butcher when i want meat except when im in a rush. but the grocery store i shop at has good meat from a farm close by. To me that makes all the difference.

And I think we have the USDA to blame, and our lovely gov't, perpetually loosening or eliminating regulations put in place to protect consumers and animals, in an effort to make things more "business friendly". God forbid we slow down, do things right, and give up a few $$$$$$ in the process. Not the American way, I guess........
