Hillbilly Housewife wrote: I have problems in my main floor bathroom/laundry room... and apparently this is what needs to be done. Now I'm pretty handy... I can put up jib and switch outlets..i'm sure I can handle a wrench... I've changed a toilet and a sink before, no problems... Now I'm wondering if tihs is stuff I can likely do on my own and not have to consider the slopes angles and all that other fun stuff....

Disconnect and remove existing wall hung basin and faucet. Install new owner supplied 24" vanity with molded top. install owner supplied left side filler strip 1'2". Level and anchor and sand to fit. need right sdide finished. Level 5 repair - 269$ (Gee. Yup, I really need to pay 269$ for a plumber to do this for me. This will be one I'll be doing. )
Install owner supplied basin faucet with owner supplier pop up drain assembly. Level 4 repair - 199$ (I could probably do this, right? ) Supply and install new hot and cold emergency shut off valves with faucet installation. Level 5 repair - 269$ (If I just need to change the valves, no problem, right? I shouldn't have to worry about pressure and angles etc, right?) Replace basin sink P-trap. Includes new trap adapter and all piping and fittings. level 5 repair - 269$ (they come fairly pre-cut etc.. i'd just need to have the right bolts or whatever the heck those things around it screwed in holding it in place.. lol) Cut out and remove solder bushing at wall. Replace with new plastic drain fitting. Level 2 repair - 99$ (yeah.. um.. ) Replace cold water washing machine emergency shut off valve in laundry room. Level 5 repair - 269$ (again... if it's the valve... fairly simple for me?)
sparkys2boys replied: Your braver then I am Rocky I was having a panic attack just reading all that!!! GL with it all!!
grandma replied: I'm no help, I'm old school and that stuff is a man's job. Good luck!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I AM the man when it comes to this stuff. Dh is useless with household repair... and I don't mind it..i kinda enjoy it..
Usually.
grandma replied: I know, you younger women amaze me! The manliest thing I do is ride my Harley...lol
Hillbilly Housewife replied: lol
Harley's are awesome. I'm too chicken. I don't even drive.
lisar replied: Wow thats alot. I am no help though sorry.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Ok so I just built the cabinet and installed the sink... including the new faucets and drain assembly. I just saved myself 269$ plus 199$. Hurray!
Next... not sure. I think I might have to wait until DH gets home so we can go look at valves... I didn't buy them last night when I went and bought the cabinet, sink and faucet..
OH I could put the new hoses up for the washing machine! The plumber who came to look told us they weren't CSA approved or something like that... and that we should be turning off the valves after EVERY WASH because they're not gauged for pressure or something like that. OMG, like, who does that?! So I picked up new hoses.. I could do that now.
sparkys2boys replied: U go girl!!
grandma replied: Rocky, did you mean you don't even drive a car?
Hillbilly Housewife replied: That's what I meant.
here's a pic of the emergency valves... I just talked to the home depot guys and they said that if they're not leaking, they do't have to be replaced.
What do you think?

From what I gather...the part sticking out of the wall under the valves is the bushing... and that definitely needs to be replaced.

And my vanity / new sink/faucets

The one i ripped off the wall was so old..it was blue. The blue toilet is still there, too. That's going next. You should see the ones upstairs...it's the old antique rose... well at least it's not the avocado green.
grapfruit replied: I think you could do all that yourself Rocky!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: maybe... i don't have a soldering gun though.
grandma replied: Rocky how come you never learned to drive?
Hillbilly Housewife replied: oh... well, I never really had a need for it... lol
I was taking public transit to get to high school... then to work...since it was downtown.. and was just too busy i guess to get my license, with working and school... and then where I lived was literally across the street from a plaza with a grocery store, bank, movie store, convenince store, pizza place, subways.. and..well..i just never went for my license... lol
I have driven though, I know how to drive, I could drive if I had to. I just don't have a license.
sparkys2boys replied: Ahh the good old fashoined illeagl way huh
grapfruit replied: LALALALALA Not listening
Hillbilly Housewife replied: parking lots and private dirt roads aren't illegal.
grandma replied: My mom didn't get her license until she was 38.......
Calimama replied: I'm impressed you can do some of that!!
luvmykids replied: I can identify with that!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: So where's Ed?!
