Easter Basket ideas
coasterqueen wrote: This might be a little early, but what are you thinking of putting in the kids Easter baskets this year? I'm getting tired of doing the usual playdoh, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, etc. Just looking for some new ideas.
stella6979 replied: I was thinking of adding some little flower pots with different seeds and some gardening gloves.
Calimama replied: Not early for us. We're celebrating this weekend so DH will get to see it. He's deploying soon. Anyway we made her a basket with baby doll stuff, candy, nail polish, and dress up clothes. Not very original but stuff she's super into right now.
coasterqueen replied: I did that last year and the girls loved it.
stella6979 replied: Well son of a gun, there goes my idea. LOL! Glad to know your girls liked them though.
stella6979 replied: Ok here are some others that I thought of:
sunglasses, books, frisbee, stickers, jump ropes, body glitter, disposable cameras.
moped replied: He usually gets a chocolate bunny, underwear and a small toy or car. Nothing too much really......then i hide chocolates around the house
Oh yeah and they will each get a summer outfit and a pair of sandals or something..........changes every year for me
cameragirl21 replied: when my godson was really little I used to get him his fair share of chocolate and candy, books, little race cars, a stuffed rabbit or other animal because eventually the stuffed bunnies got old and overdone, and a set of bunny ears. I always took pictures for obvious reasons but if that were not the case, I'd also add a disposable camera so they can take pics wearing the bunny ears. You can also add a bathing suit, cover up, beach toys, etc to get ready for spring.
MoonMama replied: I'm only kind of this far in the game. However I did buy a cute little garden set while we were at the mall yesterday to put in his basket. Its really cute, its got some pots, tiny Brae sized gardening tooks, the little bucket thing it all comes in becomes a little green house, and I can't remember what else is in it. He also really wanted this big stuffed sheep so I might go back and get that for him when he's not with me. But my mom got him this HUGE bear I mean this thing needs its own room. So I might not, I'm not sure yet. Then I'm sure I'll get him some spring/summer clothes because I always do. Bubbles, sidewalk chalk, some more gardening stuff (seeds and a few more pots or something). And I'm not sure what else.
Boys r us replied: We don't go all out for easter..it's definitely one of the most laid back holidays in our house.
The boys will get candy, blockbuster gift cards(they like to rent video games for their Wii and try them out before they decide if they want to actually buy them), batting gloves for baseball, flip flops and new pj's.
Allie will get new hair bows, I picked up some ice cream cone shaped nail polish, candy, flip flops and new pj's.
As I find little odds and ends, I'll pick it up for easter too.
coasterqueen replied: Thanks everyone. Megan cannot have chocolate and due to her other food allergies most candy is out of the question all together. Which is why I was trying to come up with more ideas for baskets. We usually don't go all out for Easter, especially since the family has a massive hunt each year, but that being said Megan won't be able to actually have most of the stuff that will be at the hunt due to her food allergies. So Dh and I were going to do a little more than usual for Easter.
I did find a few candy items that aren't allergens for her, so I will have that and I do have an Easter book for each of them. I did buy Kylie a jump rope. I may get Megan a bubble blower since she didn't get one for her birthday.
I guess maybe I'll be stuck with the "norms" that we usually buy.
CantWait replied: Where is he deploying to and for how long?
We're not doing candy this year for pretty much obvious reasons, it's a little hard to find that stuff here. My mom is sending down a couple bags of chocolate eggs that will hopefully be here in time to hide, and my friend sent the kids a couple chocolate bunny's.
We'll be buying the kids their "summer stuff" probably a scooter for Anthony and Robbie, and not sure if we'll toss in a motor boat for Anthony and a helicopter or plane for Robbie.
Calimama replied: Iraq. 7 months.
CantWait replied: Wishing him a safe tour, and wishing you all your sanity.
mom21kid2dogs replied: I hate to see her miss out on the hunt. They do make bigger eggs. Maybe you could fill some for her with trinkets (nail polish, jewelry, stickers, etc) instead of the traditional candy. We do a hunt, too, but we use coins. The big prize is a golden dollar . We came up with that because the age span is so vast in our family.
MommyToAshley replied: Ashley will probably get a really small basket because I am thinking of getting her a scooter for Easter. She's outgrown her other one. I thought about getting it for Christmas but I hate getting summer stuff at Christmas because they can't use it for so long, and her birthday is in the fall.
msoulz replied: I hide chocolate around the house too and hope they don't find it!!!
And along the summer outfit lines, I like to put their new swimsuits in there. And whatever else is needed at the time, e.g. underwear, socks, etc. I only give them a little bit of candy and small toys or games.
coasterqueen replied: Yeah, our cousins is the one who do it and there are about 15 kids who participate. They get a TON (I mean like 3 big easter baskets full, no joke ) of candy and trinkets/toys. So we are going to let her do the hunt and she seems mature enough to hand over the candy to me, and just keep the toys/trinkets. The girls are a little sad that the Easter Bunny won't be leaving them a chocolate bunny (tradition in our house) but he did find milk bunnies . Although Megan really can't have that with the lactase deficiency, but we'll let her have it and just take her meds with it and she should be ok.
On a good note, today while Megan was in occupational therapy I went down to the hospital gift shop and they had those scratch art packets, but they were stickers. So I think they'll really like those - I got one for each of their baskets.
mom21kid2dogs replied: It's all good, then! I'm sure they'll have a great Easter!
Boo&BugsMom replied: I buy small toys and maybe one candy/chocolate item for their baskets. Tanner got a few Nintendo accessories and Aiden got a puzzle and a water bottle with his name on it. Also in the baskets...gardening tools, t-shirts, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, books, and a few other items I can't remember. I also bought the edible grass this year!
boyohboyohboy replied: did you eat some of that grass yet???
cameragirl21 replied: no, but I smoked it. j/k, sorry, but I just couldn't resist.
Boo&BugsMom replied: No, it looks gross. It's probably pure sugar...just what my kids need. I haven't opened the bags up to try it, but when I do I will snag a tiny bit to see.
