Eating adult type cereal - when did yours start?

moped wrote: As in, cheerios, Special K, that type of cereal with milk. When did your kids get onto that?

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Cheerios, i'd say when they started sitting in the high chair - maybe 6 months?

Special K, rice krispies and other typed - about 10 or 11 months... when they could mash it around in their mouth before swallowing.

moped replied: Jack eats cheerios but not with milk -

PrairieMom replied: We didn't start until recently. Maybe 24 months? We could have started earlier, but he loves his oatmeal in the morning. now, if he eats all his oatmeal he can have a little cereal in his bowl afterward. I like the sweeter stuff, like frosted flakes and honey nut cheerios, so I prefer he eat something a little healthier first!

MamaJAM replied: We started cheerios around 7-8 months. Usually after the first tooth and/or when they were teething really hard.
Other types of cereal (kix, cornpops) we didn't start until they were around a year.

OOps - forgot the other half. Our kids never ate cereal with milk. Even now - the oldest (who is 13) can't understand the concept of cereal with milk.

MomToJade&Jordan replied: Jade actually starting eating cereal with milk recently. She's not a big cereral fan.

ediep replied: we started rice crispies first...they are smaller than cheerios and I was nervous about choking...he was about 6-7 months old

Jason eats tons of cereal now.....he hates milk though so he eats it dry

coasterqueen replied: Kylie just started eating cereal with milk in the past 6 months and only because I was scared to give her something that could potentially be messy. She spilled her bowl so many times at first rolleyes.gif , but not as bad now.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I think if Jack can handle a spoon pretty well on his own, then go for it! Wil still does the upside down spoon dip into his food, so I don't think we're quite there yet!

moped replied:
No Jackisn't too good with utensils, but he sure wants to try!!! I wouldn't mind feeding him cereal if I had to

3_call_me_mama replied: We did cereal with milk for Kathleen about 12 months (right after she was drinking whole milk. It can be quite messy but she loves it. Ususally kix or cheerios or honey bunches of oats. Cameron was almost 2 cause he didnt' liek cereal! Still doesnt' care for it with milk and would just as soon eat a frosted mini wheat biscuit dry than have a bowl of cheerios !

My3LilMonkeys replied: Around 6 months for Cheerios, I don't really know for other types. Brooke still won't eat it with milk though - she eats it dry with a glass of milk on the side. laugh.gif

PhiMuMommy replied: alex was about 6-7 months old when cheerios and fruit loops came into play..

MichaelsMommy replied: We gave it to Michael within the last 2 months or so.
At first I'd let them soak a little bit before giving them
to him, now I just pour the milk on and go - he does
real well with them. I think you have to look at how
many teeth and where they are. Michael has all his
1st molars and the 2nd ones are half way in - so he
has those to crunch with.

kimberley replied: the boys were about 10-12mos since they both started solids at 4-6mos. it was one of their fav snacks wink.gif
jade didn't until she was probably 18mos but she was EBF for nearly her whole first year.

bonnie replied: Emily has had weetabix since she was about 6 months old i think. She has just recently started on cornflakes, rice crispies ect.... she is 19 months.

Maddy'sMom replied: Madison still eats infant oatmeal, made really thick so she can use her own spoon...I have tried regular instant oatmeal, but it's just not as good to her as the other stuff, so she still eats that most days. She also LOVES the Graduates Little Flakes- they absorb milk so they are soft, but they aren't just sitting in a bowl of milk like other cereals..you can add as much or little milk as you like. She gobbles them up, and although they are messy, she does ok with spoon and hands!

She has eaten cheerios, Kix, and Alpha Bits dry as a snack, but she doesn't care for them with milk as a cereal.

She is 16 mos.

fashionmumofboys replied: I started at around 20 months cereal with milk. My 3 yo is not a big fan of it with milk. He likes to eat it on its own.
