Economy
TrulyBlessed wrote: Hello! I'm just wondering how the economy is where you live. DH and I are thinking about leaving Michigan now that we have both lost our jobs, but we don't know if the economy is bad everywhere or just here in Michigan. So if you could, please tell me what the economy is like in your state. Thank you!!!
sparkys2boys replied: Im in Canada, and the economy is terrible here also. People can hardly afford to heat there homes or put gas in there cars. I think honestly it is the same everywhere now adays.
msoulz replied: Oh, I just want to say how sorry I am about your jobs. We too live in Michigan and it is lousy. I feel very badly for you and other folks in your situation. I hope you find something soon, even if it is elsewhere.
PrairieMom replied: things here in SD are going pretty good. Our housing market is actually still hanging in there, and there are always tons of jobs. Our city is growing so fast!
mom21kid2dogs replied: You don't want to cross the border to Ohio~nothing much here, either. We WERE a manufacturing state, too.
Crystalina replied: I was getting ready to say just that. Whatever you do don't come to Ohio.
jcc64 replied: Things are pretty rough all over, and still heading south, I believe. We're in for some rough times as a country. Lot of chickens coming home to roost. Can't live on credit forever.
punkeemunkee'smom replied:
That seems quite the popular phrase of the week.....
The economy is bad everywhere I am afraid. I am truly not sure what the future holds. Best of luck to you in your search for greener pastures!
Crystalina replied: Yep, speaking of chickens we are getting ready to buy a bunch just to save a buck on dinner later on. Broilers cost less to feed then buying them already packaged and they are bigger.
coasterqueen replied: I am so sorry you both lost your jobs. I know that must be very rough.
Economy is bad everywhere. I know it is here, Illinois. I must say, though, interest rates (mortgage, etc) are doing great though. We are getting ready to take advantage of that again.
My2Beauties replied: The economy here in Kentucky is pretty awful as well, gas is like $3.30 a gallon and up, jobs are getting ready tobe scarce because we have two major plants probably on the brink of being shutdown here in Louisville, there is Ford and GE, both big job markets here. We also have the railroad, which is doing well now, and Humana Inc which is a large insurance company, Fortune 200 company which is doing great right now (unless UHC comes into play then who knows). OUr groceries and stuff to be honest aren't that bad IMHO yet. But I know it's going to happen soon.
bawoodsmall replied: Dont come to Iowa either. There have been so many lost jobs just in my city. Sad. I hope everything works out for you and you make it big somewhere.
gr33n3y3z replied: No work in NJ either bc they are laying ppl. off here Gas is still under 3.00 tho
coasterqueen replied: Ugh!!!! Gas was at $3.49 last week. It went down and now it's back up at $3.45.
gr33n3y3z replied: Sorry hun the gas wars are out of control
luvbug00 replied: Northern va isn't too awful we are booming in development so lots of job oppertunites here still. We do have the almost $4 gas issue though. fortunatley public trans takes you everywhere.
My2Beauties replied: That's good, our public trans sucks If you live outside of the city limits you can kill it if you want to take the bus in to work or to the city, you might see one or two buses a day
amynicole21 replied: Florida stinks. Housing market is in the toilet and the only jobs are really in the service industry, which doesn't pay all that well.
MommyToAshley replied: What she said.
luvmykids replied: We have good things and bad here in NM, like everyone else gas and food have gone ridiculously high, the real estate market is pretty slow, but housing has gone down a little and we still seem to manage to be one of the few areas where you can live pretty well for less money than most places.
We have lots and lots of construction going on for some reason, so there are tons of jobs in that area.
Crystalina replied: Yep, it's going to happen. We're paying over $4 a gallon for diesel and it's going to trickle down to the consumers real quick. We haul steel but the drivers who haul food are passing it to the buyers who pass it to the consumer. DH has had to raise his rates to haul steel and he has to pass up a lot of loads because people aren't willing to pay what it's worth to take the load. He's actually been hauling locally because he makes better money and wastes less fuel.
youngmomofone replied: I'm in TX right now, and things arent too bad here. :knock on wood:
julesmom replied: I am in NY and it's really bad. Layoffs, gas prices, food prices, everthing is bad.
This is a good topic because everyone near me keeps saying to move south. Doesn't seem like it's any better south.
skinkybaby replied: I'm in Tx too. Housing market isn't super, but other than that we haven't been hit too hard. Yet.
TrulyBlessed replied: I'm glad I asked this question, because I too have heard to move south or to Colorado or Montana, but it sounds like things are hard everywhere. Michigan has been in a slump for at least 5-6 yrs now, so sooner or later it has to turn around. I really don't want to leave our family and right now I am getting free schooling through the state to get my degree as a legal assistant. It sounds like the best thing for us to do is stay here and fight to keep our home. I know if I put it in God's hands He will take care of us.
I really think this had to be a wake up call for a lot of people, unfortunately it seems to hit those people last.
LOL@ the credit comment. I told my mom that recently. I said the only ones that are not feeling too much of a pinch yet are the ones that haven't maxed out their credit cards.
I just feel bad that everyone is getting hit. I've always been a caregiver to others and that has been the hardest part for me right now. But one day I will be back on my feet and will be able to help those in need again, maybe I need to experience this so I can emotionally relate to those I help in the future. God has a plan and I just need to trust in Him.
Sorry..... rambling... but thank you for the hugs and hugs back to you all!!!!
