Ed, I am sure you have done this a few times... - preschool trip to the fire station
MommyToAshley wrote: Ashley's preschool went to the firestation last week and I took a few pics.

Ashley's favorite part was going through the fire trucks. They had both classes there at the same time so they divided the kids up between the different trucks. I don't think they noticed that Ashley kept going to the back of the line to go through the trucks again.

MommyToAshley replied: And, the scary one:
mom2my2cuties replied: Ok I just gotta say - I think if the fire didn't get me - someone dressed like that fireman in the last picture would give me a heart attack and thier efforts would have been wasted
MommyToAshley replied: I think that is why they dress up like that ... to teach the kids not to be scared of the fireman. Ashley thought he looked like an astronaut.
kimberley replied: cute pics! she is adorable and fireman is scary lookin lol
and how could they not notice her with her fuzzy pink hairties?
paradisemommy replied: lol..we went to the firestation today too!! ..i'll have to post some hawaii firestation photos!! ha ha..

redchief replied: That's exactly why they do that. We start with the young ones by appearing in front of small groups in street clothes. We let them touch and ask questions about the clothing and equipment before doing anything so that the kids develop a comfort level with both the firefighters and the tools and equipment. Then the firefighters dress slowly, often having the children help by intentionally putting one thing or another on incorrectly, having the kids correct the action (that's funny - the kids KNOW).
After they're all dressed up they bring out the Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), and explain that there are a lot of neat things that make noise and light on them. They're showed all of that before the SCBA is turned on and warned again that they make noise, but that the noises they hear mean it is working properly. Only then do the firefighters don (put on) the SCBA. Then the firefighters talk to the kids with the SCBA on and ask who the person in all the clothes is. They always point out that it's firefighter Rick (or whomever). We like to use Rick (my son) because he's little and doesn't come off as overbearing with the kids. Then they help the firefighter get undressed back to street clothes, making the firefighter be sure to put all of his things back where they belong.
The only problem I saw with your visit is that your fire department accidently painted their fire engines green-yellow. Everyone knows that fire trucks are red.
mom2my2cuties replied: MOst of our EMS Stuff here is LIME GREEN!
msoulz replied: Our fire stations have an open house every year. It's really great for the kids, but I pity the poor guy that has to clean the trucks at the end of the day will all of the kids climbing in and out after eating doughnuts!!
MommyToAshley replied: Ashley says the same thing every time she sees the firetrucks. LOL!
luvmykids replied: It's interesting, through most of the state the city fire trucks are red and the volunteer stations use green. I wonder why that is....
Maddie&EthansMom replied: How sweet
Ethan did the same thing today. He got a Jr Firefighter badge. Except they came to the school.
I noticed the firetrucks were green, too.
redchief replied: Colorblind volunteers?
Lime green and yellow are supposed to be easier to see.
Dee Dee, Ashley is one smart little girl.
Jamison'smama replied: Our trucks are white---they were completely wrong according to Jamison. Cute pictures of Ashley. Looks like she had a great time.
mom2my2cuties replied: How is hard to miss something coming up on you fast and heavy with sirens blaring?
3xsthefun replied: How fun! Ashley is cute!
Our fire trucks are red, but in the county next to us, some of the fire trucks are white and some are red, I've also have seen some yellow fire trucks.
