Emerald is sick

Well, on Friday night, she was so fussy and I had a really hard time putting her to bed, which is not like her at all. Then, on Sat. morning she had this rash all over her feet and body. So we took her to the doc. and she has something called Hand, Foot, Mouth disease! She is still not eating well and now she has a fever of about 100.5 I feel so bad for her. The doc said all I can really do is give her tylenol for the pain, because she has sores in her throat from it. Has anyone's kids had this? Just curious. Thanks for reading.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: It is my little girl that they said has it but we still don't have any rash on hands or feet so I am wondering if the PA was wrong! But from what I have read(I did not know what is was either) It is a highly contagious illness that as you are seeing causes rash on their hands and feet and ulsers(sores)in the throat,nose,mouth. She just has spots on the back of her throat no place else as yet. I read that it is shed fecally for WEEKS after symptoms so they say the best thing to do is wash hands 2 stop the spread. But once the fever is gone they don't keep kids out of daycare and such because they said it is so contagious that once one has it they probably all do. And they "shed" the virus for so long that I guess most kids could not be isolated for that long. It is a NASTY little illness! I am so sorry for your poor daughter- Tay has had a headache and sore throat for 3 days now! I have heard that the skin rash is very painful. (and you can catch it thru contact with fluid in the blisters on the skin)
